Hello. I am considering studded snow tires for my daily beater, a 2009 Camry. I do highway and city driving. I am worried about the noise. Any advice?

they can be sold here and used in extra-urban areas I believe. I had a supplier give me a set of studded nokian hakka's instead of the regulars once. they made winter really fun. studds didn't last long once the snow cleared out.

How did you find the extra noise from the studs on dry pavement, or at highway speeds?

they are legal in Ontario, Parry Sound and north.
I work in the snowbelt, and have considered them, because I can't get them here locally, I have never been able to time getting them when I actually need them.
That said, I've been happy with the performance of regular winter tires, front wheel drive, and all wheel drive.
I believe you can also get them in Buffalo, NY

My parents have them on their car ( mom delivers rural mail in the snowbelt ) They are small , about the size of a pen tip . There must be at least 100 per tire, maybe more, purchased in Buffalo, NY
they make a huge difference in stopping
also the only time you can hear them is when you are travelling/ turning slow on bare asphalt/ concrete
although they would not last long in the city

You get used to the noise. It's alarmingly loud when you first get the studs installed, but they wear down within the first 15 km or so and the noise becomes tolerable. I got my Gislaved Nordfrost 5s for my Volvo V70 from Simply Tire in Toronto and had them studded in Gatineau (Hull). I've been pulled over by the police for speeding and they either didn't notice or didn't care.
Unfortunately (fortunately?) I didn't get a chance to appreciate the studs because there were absolutely no ice conditions last winter.
