Time to start thinking about winter tires!!
Hi everyone - don't flame me for mentioning snow when it's not even September yet! LOL
I just got a 2007 911 Turbo a few months ago - shipped in from California, so it's never seen a winter. It's my daily driver, since I don't have another parking spot. Wouldn't want to drive anything else during the winter anyways.
19" summer tires on now. I live in Toronto, so I definitely need to switch to snow tires for the winter here in Canada. What is everyone thinking of putting on their cars for the coming season? Is it too early to buy snow tires?
When does everyone typically switch to their winter rims?

We lived 11 years in Santa Monica, CA before we moved here.
The weather may change in late October or not until late December. However there seems to be always a frenzy to get winter tires in November/December.
Also keep in mind that you dont have much grip with your summer tires when it gets cold - let me know if you need any assitance with your search.

This has been discussed at length on 997 and 997 Turbo forums. Take a look there. But for my next winter set I will be getting the Nokian Hakkapeliita. They offer the best snow/ice grip, but no so much winter performance. For that you need either Pirelli's or Michelin.
P.S. I have a set of winter rim/tire with TPMS for sale. PM if interested.

go with a separate set of 18" and while you are at it get 2 sets (one for track).
had you been smart you would have bought the extra wheels and tires in the us and shipped with the car for huge savings.

I use Nokian on 18 inch rims for winter on my C4S. Very happy with them. The hakks are the best rated tires for winter in these parts.
It is wise to use narrower tires and rims for winter and the 18 inch wheels/tires provide better isolation from pot holes.
Best,

My Michelin Pilot Sports will turn to hockey pucks at any temp below 7 degrees C. So regardless of snow or ice, cold temps, as mentioned in a previous post is very important to swtiching to winters.
I drive my C4 everyday too. I switch to snow boots just after Halloween. Kal-Tire is also a very good supplier (no affiliation) and I second the recommendation to move down a size if you can.
