Newbie Needs Help To Inspect '85 944 Manual
Used car dealer has a low mileage 1985 944 2.5l manual. Is anyone available to inspect it on site (Montreal)? If you know someone, please let me know.
Here's a photo -
If you need the link to the actual car, please let me know.

Update for Danny:
The next cheapest one, geographically speaking, is this one -

But it's a turbo (more complications?). Do you see A/C in the pics? It's not listed in the options.

sorry, but way overpriced for an early model. it is very much worth getting the 85 and half and newer model.
what is your budget? for $7k you can get a much better car IMHO.

Ok, how about this one (will need Quebec SAAQ inspection):

$3000 more. I have a trade-in (2001 Mustang, V6, manual, 107000 km).

the 944S is a VERY nice car , I had one for 8 years and loved it, get the belts and chain tensioner replaced and your good to go with an S. those 16 valves are a nice boost in power over the 8 valve head.

with any p-car purchase, it would be nice to find out the maintenance history.
Last water pump/timing belt/rollers change.
Check for oil leaks, front seals, oil pan, sides(balance shaft housings)
Clutch change history?
any sludge/oil residue in the coolant resevoir ( could be leaking cooler seals)
Seems to be a standard package, non-sport seats, the script light at the back is aftermarket, ATS cookie cutter wheels. The rear wiper is usually rests up, check for hatch leaks, wet floors etc.
Do a quick search for 944 FAQ, I think there is a check list in it. It will point you to the option codes. as well.
I happen to like the early cars, I have a 84-944 in Ottawa.
I am sure there is room in the price, without knowing the service history in a 25 year old car you are not familiar with, I would suggest a PPI from a recommended shop in Montreal (check with Rennsport region guys). Don't be afraid of these cars..remember there were many of them built 83-85 (200K+) world wide, lots of parts etc. Yes a later car in an S, gives you the 2.7l, however, they are still fairly low powered cars, S2 gives you 3.0l and 968 a much newer look. Different issues..that all.
Definetly not a 7K car, unless all the maintenance was documented, recent, fantastic shape, no accidents/paint, great tires, brakes...like a 8-9/10 car.

Just to Clarify Homer the S is not a 2.7 litre motor but a 2.5 16 valave motor 190 HP ) . The S2 is a 3.0Litre motor so I imagine runs around 208. The 2.7 was a 8 valve motor offered in about 89 or so I think.

Just looking briefly at Cardomain prices (same as eBay) in USA - they seem much lower than in Canada. But if the cost of repairs and maintenance are so high for a summer car (rear wheel drive and all)...fewer and fewer low price sellers are maintaining their p-cars in running order.
One Kijiji poster can't find an early 911 mechanic in the Montreal area!
Prices in Western Canada are also quite high (see http://forum.pca-cwr.org/viewforum.php?f=6
autocatch.com is good to browse (used car dealers and private), and cartrader.ca.
