Hi all,

I'm getting back into a P-Car and there are two that interest me right now:

2002 C4S with 38K km, silver, CPO, around $52K CND Located in Canada

or

2004 C4S Seal Grey, 17K miles, CPO, $49K USD Located in the USA

Sounds like the import process is more of a pain in the butt than a year or so ago but what are your thoughts? I will be able to drive the vehicle from the USA so delivery charge does not factor in.

The 2002 is a local car offered by the Porsche dealer in Canada.

Both are new condition but will get full history, service records...etc.

Would love to hookup with a 996 turbo but not crazy about getting a high mileage vehicle as I want to stay in the 50's and need CPO.

Appreciate all and any thoughts.

Is a PPI or leakdown needed with CPO?

$52k for the 2002 seems a little high to me for a car with 38km on the clock.

Polarporsche, I would agree that both might be high but seems about what for the most part they are going for with CPO and through a dealer. I will keep searching but do favor the car from the USA.

If you checked and do not think it is a bit too much for an 02, then you still need to decide between two cars. I'd go with the US car. Better car, same money. You'v got youself a no brainer here. And no mater how dificult the Porsche process is right now, it sure isn't as bad as when I brought in my father's CPO 06 S430 a year ago. Mercedes Canada first had to issue a letter of admissibility which takes up to 4 weeks (at that time). And the dealer did not want to hold the car for so long, knowing that he might have to refund the deposit. It took a lot of running arround, but my father is driving a white on beige long wheel base 2006 S430 with AMG PKG and "the works". I call it The Russian Cadilac.
As for the resale value, ... There is no such thing.
Plus I know for sure, this beeing a US car does not change a thing.
So, my advice to you is compare the two cars like they are in the same country. Especially since americans would now probably prefer to get paid in CAD.

FWIW, the import process is not a hassle at all. As long as you have all your papers, it's a fairly painless process.

I would go with the newer US car - although I would suggest that it is overpriced by $5-$7K. I picked up my CPO 04 C4S Cab with the X50 option for less than what's being asked for Seal Grey 04 C4S coupe.

congrats as well. Both cars sound really nice. Have you checked on the 05 997's? might be a little more, but if you search you will find some in the same price range. good luck whatever you decide. the local CPO warranty is probably the main advantage to buy local.

i would get a TT or GT3 for that money from teh US, Forget CPO... What are you goign to do when -2 years CPO runs out?

I prefer silver over the dull seal grey but it does blend into the road and distance really well. So it is harder for the laser to pick it up.
There is not really no difference except the 04 has fibre optical radio and amp between the 2002 - 2004.
Considering RMS, IMS problems with the M96 motors I would like CPO even if only for 2 years.

Just get TFX Internantional (no affiliation) to ship the car for you. They handle all the documentation and paperwork and its door to door delivery.

I agree with Danny. For those dollars you can easily bring in a 2005 997 or even a 2006. I was looking last summer and for around $60k all-in you could get and 05 or 06 - maybe even an S in a pinch. I believe the prices have come down even more with the 997.2 release. Granted, I wasn't look for C4S, but still, I think you can get one.

No disrespect to the 996, its a great car, but for the same or similar dough, the 997 is worth a look.

Yes it is... Infact Canadian Dealer are selling US cars CPO'd... Pfaff has 2 right now, but they are asking Canadian Type Money, you can get that same car in the US for 10-15's less... I dont get their logic

Canadian Auto associate sold an 06 997 for close to $50k about a month ago with a set of 20"techarts and Under 50km. US car. My buddy new the previous owner and that was a great deal.

Man, I forget how helpful this board is. I found out today the USA car has an issue with the RMS. They stated they would repair it as well as replace the clutch while they are at it.
Suprised at 17K miles that it would need a clutch already. Ok, looks like I will need to do lots of looking around to find something that would fit the bill. 997S would be a preference and for sure a turbo with CPO, but not sure if it will stay in my budget.
Dabbled with a SRT10 that had ridiculous power but unfortunately designed to be a lethal combination speed and power in my humble opinion.
