It was official back in the day when the Teacher's bought the team. What part of shareholder returns don't we get? It's not about winning but about how much we can get on our return. Oh and change the shirts every year to max out the turn over of Chinese made Maple Leaf store inventory. As long as the stupid fans keep buying $120+ shirts and insane seat 'licences' and ticket prices the loosing is 'good' for the team as it means the share price returns are good. As soon as they start going after good players the BofD get's the 'call' from the Pension Fund and the plan is halted.

I have no problem with pension funds - just the ones that buy sports teams. When the fans in Toronto 'get this' and perhaps vote with their wallet - then and only then will things change.

OTTP buy in to MLGL in 2003. 7 directors (1 non voting unless a tie) 3 of which are from OTTP, (changing to an extra member soon to reflect last summers buy in of 2/3 of the company). Not made the play off's in the last 6 years - not a coincidence.

Now these fools want to f**k up the English league. Great...... Do we hate the English this much? http://www.thestar.com/article/417801

+1 same thing I've been preaching for years. They are smart, they run it like a business (ROI), not like a hockey team.

and if Montreal is able to hold onto a playoff spot they will get swept in the first round again, like last year. they have no size. which is better getting swept in the first round or not making the playoffs?

The Leafs since getting Phaneuf have been very good and had the team played with the same ratio of wins all year they would be a top 6 team. Oh well, there's always next year. Come to think of it I've said the same thing for about 40 years. Wait till next year. Go Leafs Go.

GO BLACKHAWKS and GO SHARKS!

i gave up on the Toronto Make Beliefs years ago for all the reasons listed in this thread. it is still the most valuable team in the NHL, and also has the largest fan base and some of the highest ticket prices; prices that are happily met by the fans. so why do they need to spend tonnes more money on acquiring good (aka expensive) players, or building a good team that will win games and make play-offs if theyre already raking in tonnes of profit with a team thats 90% comprised of (cheap) 4th-liners?

fans need to realize this and stop attending games so feverishly. there are already quite a few boycott sites and clubs set up for just this purpose. only when the profits start dwindling and the stands at the ACC start looking a bit emptier will the upper brass realize its time to actually build a competitive hockey team, although i must agree with jim 7 in saying that the last quarter of the season was quite impressive after the acquisition of Giguere and Phaneuf.

Although I agree with much of the above, th fans will not boycott the team...there are waiting lists for season ticket holders. and spenidin money is not the probem (they have been amoungst the highest spenders in the league for years) (espeially under new CBA) they even spend money that doesn't count towards salary cap (buying out players, high salary for GM etc). Perhaps one problem that is presently fixd is giving the gm free reign to do deals without asking Peddie or the teachers ***.
they want to win and seem to be on the right road for a few seasons down the road.
one problem is for years finishing 9th or 10th and not making playoffs and not getting a low pick. another is the media puts the team under a microscope and puts extra pressure on the players. another is with so much pressure our gms keep trading our draft picks. another reason is every visiting team has players from GTA that invite their family and friends and really get up for the games here.
ok rant is over
lets enjoy seeng the habs get swept in the first round, and enjoy our Porsches!
Prediction: Ponikarofsky gets a ring!
