I can tell you for a FACT that the statement made by this metro PR flack is UNTRUE. Metro DO escort people at HIGHSPEED - spouses/family members of officers who have involved in accidents and shootings all the time. Ask anyone who lives near St Mikes or Sunnybrooke about the highspeed driving my metro officers getting to the hospital when one of their own is down.
What a complete A Hole this officer is. He COULD have given the guy a warning and sent him off - it would have taken 1 min. But oh, no, he has to come from the extremist school of Fantino nanny state policing which states that, 'we're always right, can do no wrong and thats the way it is'.

My dad is a doctor and he had a similar situation years ago where he was rushing to the hospital to attend to a patient. The cop confirmed his identity and gave him an escort to the hospital.
I have a couple of friends who are surgeons and they both said they’ve been stopped by police on the way to the emergency room and been given escorts. But maybe that was in the past because on a recent occasion the officer refused to let one of them off with a warning. My friend suggested the officer mail him the citation but he said he wouldn’t make any special exceptions because he was a Dr. He even pointed out the air-ambulance helicopter flying overhead on route to the hospital with his patient inside, but the officer would not even speed up the procedure.
