Default Trickle Charger question

I recently put my car into storage and took my battery out of my car. I bought a trickle charger from Crappy Tire. From what I understand I am suppose to hook it up then when the battery is fully charged, disconnect the charger and do this a couple times a month.

I've had the charger hooked up for over a day now and it's still not at full charge. How long is it suppose to take to reach full charge? I thought it should reach full charge in 6-8 hours.

charging time depends on the condition and starting level of the battery.....

over 24h's is a bit long for a car battery. If it's a 2amp trickle charge, than u would have put 50aH's into the battery.

Same thing happened to my bro-in-law when he borrowed my trickle charger to charge a new battery for his PWC. plugged it in overnight, and still wasn't charged. Typically it would be less than 8h's to bring a powersport battery to full charge. The outdoor receptacle he used was GFI'd and it was tripped, so the charger showed it was charging when in fact it wasn't getting any power.....

Nr1416... Do yourself a favour and return you manual charger from Crappy Tire and spend a few more bucks for the CTEK charger. The CTEK hooks up to your battery and you can leave it on all winter.

I bought the motomaster charger that was on sale last week. Took a couples of hours to fully charge....

I will leave it connected all winter ...

Automatically switches from full charge to maintenance mode to maintain batteries during prolonged periods of storage without overcharging or damaging the battery

The CTEK multi-use 3300 is currently on sale at Canadian Tire $59.99 at the Dufferin and Finch store. Other locations may also have this special, but call first.

I have the (on sale) Motomaster charger on the Zed and think it's a much better unit at less than 1/2 the price of the Porsche charger I have on the 993tt. It is solid state and doesn't generate heat like most others. Just plug it into your lighter socket. No need to remove the battery. They both take a long time to bring a relatively well charged battery up...

the ctek one (according to many here) is the Porsche one. I have a battery tender but usually either put it on a timer so it isn't on all the time (this was recommended and makes sense)
which is the ctek one you guys recommend? (there are 2)...I think I will get one so I can plug into the lighter socket instead of throught the hood.

I'm interested too. I looked on the CTEK site and I can't find out about the cig lighter plug. Do these come standard or do you have to buy something else? Which CTEK do you recommend?
Thanks

The Porsche charger I have was $86 and is a Charge-o-mat part # 980 611 981 00. The only advantage I can see is the incredibly long wire from the unit, which plugs into an outletand runs to the cigarette lighter. The wire is also thin (read not durable) so it fits in a door gap. The solid state Motomaster unit pictured above is a more advanced unit and only $35 on sale. I doubt the thicker wire will fit through a door gap but others may advise you on this. I have mine running in a gap opening at the top of a window on the Zed but of course it does not have an interior infrared alarm. I don't see any need for a timer. These units turn on and off automatically and are on for such short times after the initial plug in charge that you'll never see it on. I think a timer would interfere with it's cycling....

I've used a CT trickle charger on a timer (2 x ~2hr sessions every 24hrs) since 2005 and never had a problem. No issues fitting through the door gap either. It came with a cig adaptor.

Car is fully "juiced" every spring when I bring it out of hibernation.

The CTEK 3300 doesn't come standard with the cig adapter like its Porsche Tequipment cousin. However, you can get the accessories for it separately. I got my cig adapter for $20 from Performance Improvements on the Queensway: http://www.canpages.ca/page/ON/etobi...s/1510277.html
