PS3. Probably one of the best out there.
Also, if you are looking at dedicated BR players, look for one that can play the additional features that BR offers such as Picture in Picture playback.

I've always looked at cnet.com for reviews. I don't really know who they are but they seem to review EVERY brand and to me that brings a bit of legitimacy.
They recommended, and I bought, a Panasonic DMP BD 35 and I love it. Now, it's a "budget" version but hey, I can't tell the difference and I've got a couple of fill ups to boot!

PS3.
if you want me to run thru the full why and how of that decision, gimme a ring 2morrow.
the nuts and bolts of it are:
1) it was sony's trojan horse to defeat hd-dvd, it gets the latest firmware and plays all the new audio-codecs at the lowest possible price point.
2) it loads java menu disks like normal..other players can take 5 mins if they even load them at all (u need 2 wait for xyz company to release firmware updates for some new disks at times)
3) you get a free wireless media center and game console at the same time
4) its cheaper than just about all the other players that arn't worth a damn
5) did i mention it plays everything....DTS:HD MA right thru to 7.1
6) Video quality is just as good as a topline blu-ray player....near as makes no difference unless u have a 200" screen and top of the line projector (20g's)
I've been using mine as a BD player and I won't be some other companies beta tester for incompatible firmware and disks that don't play.

Gaming nerds have told me that the new slim PS3 isn't made by Sony, but a sub contractor in China and uses differently sourced internals.
I haven't confirmed it myself, but it's worth checking out before you buy.
