I question the low ball est on repairs. Sounds like a crate motor repair.

Phase 1: Offer him 10G's.
Phase 2: Put 996 3.4L motor in.
Phase 3: Lower, gut, remove windscreen, install speedster deflector screen, rollbar.
Phase 4: Supercharge
Phase 5: All Hell Brakes Loose

I looked at this car and test drove it while looking for my Boxster. It had several issues, but the engine was running fine at the time. With an engine replacement in order, a Boxster is not worth more than $8K, and I think this one in particular would not be worth more than $6K

I got a 2002 S for a good price and the motor is being rebuilt. It will come out to a few grand more than this one is priced.

Run ... don't walk ....

According to 986 forum, lifters are one of the main problems due to the long oil change interval and the cost to repair is close to $6,000 USD at a few shops in the states!!!

HA, I paid 1/4 of that for my boxster and it still runs! I'm going to swap it over to a 3.4. why anyone would pay that price when you can buy a running porsche for the same price is beyond me. Not to mention it has high km.

Well I figured if he is quoting $800 - $1500 for repairs you would have to believe that someone would just fix it... so it has to be major. Maybe he thinks he'll get a wingnut who won't get a PPI done??

my thoughts exactly. If you arent willing to fix it there's gotta be more to the story. Not to mention you can't test drive it to see what else could be wrong with the car. As mentioned earlier it has a few other issues. To each their own and everyone is entitled to sell their car for what they think its worth. He or she will soon find out nobody else agrees this vehicle is worth the asking price....

Great line! Reminds me of the line from The Princess Bride where he was 'mostly dead'.

Is it just me, or does it seem Boxster values are dropping like a stone? There's quite a few for sale in Calgary and I've seen lots listed for under $20k....

Closer to 10K for 1st gen boxsters in the states. Simple supply and demand - they made a ton of them.

oh... makes me sad...

I bought my 2001 Boxster S in Chicago for 18K...US, by the time taxes, duties, PPI, flight exchange (back at 87c) were done, plus 4 new tires locally (jeesh), I came out at around 25K on the road.......

Mine had 70,000km at the time..... body and interior in near mint condition.....

Man, I hate looking at the classifieds after u make a purchase
