Track Tires
A bit more information might be useful. Are you driving a Yugo or a 911? Or a Boxster?? Do you daily drive the car or is it a track monster? What camber and toe are you running? Do you want to drive it on the track in the wet/damp, or dry only?
well ... decoding the avatar ... I'd guess he's in a 987 from Ottawa (YOW = airport code for Ottawa ...)

I'm looking for new tires for my 987-S as well - I was thinking about the R888 since I have heard that the stiffer side walls may tolerate the camber I have (about neg 1.5 deg) better than the MPSCs which are reported to need more like neg 2.5 to 2.8 deg ... But Bob Rouleau was saying that he found them very squirmy when new and did not like them.
I'm now thinking about sticking with street tires and am looking at the RE-11's - For me I need the tires to be OK for the street - getting to / from track some daily driving - but I want to optimize the track performance for DE's within reason (eg. not going to lower the car, go to slicks, etc.)
Did you cord them on the outside or inside edge ?

Well, no matter what you drive, the tires you listed are in a completely different class. MPSC are R compounds and Star Specs are marketed as Autocross tires but they ARE street tires. Are you looking for something that is for the track or do you want a compromise between street and track?
I like the r 888s (they are on the 951). they are similar to yoko 048s which I have on my 911. I also heard the Nitto is a good less expensive tire but I am not sure if it is street legal (I drive to the track with them).
Initially they were a little squirmy but settled in. They like higher hot pressures than Cups (38 vs 34/35 psi).
Good tire for the money.
They state "RECOMMENDED FOR COMPETITION USE ONLY" on the sidewall. Not a lot of tread on them so I can't say I'd want to drive them extensively in the rain.

acadian_dad is correct, I have a '05 Boxster S with no mods other than Pagig blue. I have a dedicated set of track rims/tires, but I don't trailer the car or the tires - so what I put on at home is the only choice at the driving event. I'm looking for a tire that I can drive in dry and wet on the track and to/from the track. I liked the MSCP, but am considering a more multi-condition tire.
R888s are supposed to be a very good replacement for the R1s, which they don't make anymore. I've got R1s and love them. I usually put them on at the track (I can fit all 4 in my car, plus a passenger, if you can believe that!) but I've driven them to and home from the track several times, in wet and dry, with no problems whatsoever. They're now pretty much down to slicks, so I can't use them in the wet, but up until then they were a great all-around tire. And the price is right too - I think they're something like half the price of sport cups. Apparently the R888s are very similar.
