Perhaps it refers to the last names of the founders of the company....... In any case it is the most popular buffer for home hobby automotive detailing.

Perhaps, but they could have used the word buffer or polisher in their product as well.

The Porter Cable High Speed Buffer/Polisher.

Oh well, I guess Porter Cable is good enough for those in the know.

actually most just refer to it as the "PC" .. so we are lucky we got what we got

I own a ton of Porter Cable tools which is why I was asking. All great quality stuff. I was kind of hoping it was a router.

Porter Cable is the name of the company that makes it...Like DeWalt, or Bosch etc. and they make a lot more then vibrators... errr... I mean polishers...
