I have decided to sell my 1988 911 cabriolet. I've owned it for 10 years but I hardly drive it. I typically put on 1,000kms or less a year and I can't justify keeping it with such little use. Plus, we are contemplating a move soon to a much smaller house with no garage.
I haven't really kept up with values in recent years so I'd like some opinions.
It is 99% original with H4 headlight upgrade, Euro tail light lenses and a modern, Alpine stereo system with Eclipse speakers.
No accidents, sport seats in perfect shape, top is slightly worn has no leaks. 126,000kms.
I was thinking $28,000. Opinions?

To make ownership more acceptable you should change your insurance to LANT classics car insurance. It should on be about $400/yr. Otherwise $28,000 sounds very fair. Good Luck...

It's a terrible time to be selling a sports or luxury car - the market is definitely not in your favour. In a good market, $28K would be a fair to good price, meaning it would go pretty quickly, most likely. In this market, I don't think 28 is out of line, but you'll likely have to sit on it for a while before it moves. Beautiful car.

I think 25K is about in line.
Here is my theory:
Look at the average price of a similar car in the US
convert to CDN dollars
add 6% for duty
then add $2,000 for the fact that you have a local car. Folks will pay a bit of a premium for the reduced risk of buying local
So using my math:
$18,000 USD = $25,000 CDN factoring in the above

Were you driving on Woodbine Ave. yesterday morning near alden Rd. and came across another black 930 turbo-look?

That wasn't me. My car is not turbo-look. I do have the turbo wheels but will likely remove them for the originals when I sell it.

I could live with $25k. If it doesn't sell, I could live with that too. I'll start listing it in P-car friendly websites. I'm loath to list in Auto Trader. I can just imagine the phone calls.

If you can live with it not selling then perhaps you should reconsider keeping it. At the very least prices you're likely to get more for it later if you decide that you really do want it sold.

Sorry, I meant my car was the turbo-look. Some guy pulled up next to me in your exact car yesterday morning. I thought it might have been you.

You might be surprised with Auto Trader. When I sold my boxster, I listed it in Auto Trader, as well as Craigslist, etc. I was expected a ton of tire kickers. I got 2 or 3 scam emails, and very, very few calls. Of course, that means that I didn't get the good buyers, as well as not getting the bad.
