Not that he is a fuel expert but...I was told by Auguste LeCourt of Auguste Automobile not to use Sunoco 94 in my car when I bought it. We didn't discuss engine problems but he told me that back in the Turbo Cup days they tested fuels and they lost considerable time with Sunoco 94. He recommended Petro-Canada or Esso.

By the way I think Pioneer stations get Sunoco gas if I'm not mistaken.

I don't know much about Esso.

So far, Shell 91 is one of the better gas for us.

I am still curious, and need some knowledge on the newly added Nitrogen.
It would be nice if someone with knowledge on Nitrogen would chime in.

ethanol is bad because as pointed out is hygroscopic and will absorb water. water content in fuel is really hard on CIS, MFI and carbed engines because it can cause corrosion in the intricate metal parts in the fuel metering system.

I put a shot fo stabil in the tank every now and then as it has been reformulated for this exact reason.

Canadian tire Carries it and it goes on sale now and again ...

The Shell I am not 100% positive it has zero ethanol in Canada. If you guys are using it you have probably found this out though ..

Shell regular and mid-grade can contain up to 10% ethanol. Shell premium contains no ethanol...it's written right on the pumps.

.. well if that is the case it is a slam dunk .. I have not heard of ANY other gasoline that has no ethanol. If there is any people should post so we can have a second source in case of emergencies.

Over a year ago one of the guys competing in the Grand Am Koni Challenge Series mentioned that the spec fuel used in the series was Sunoco 94 and that there was a drop off in power when using it as compared to some other fuels that they had tested with.

Same with Esso and Petro Canada. Says so on the pumps. But I wonder why they say "may contain up to 10% ethanol". Don't they know how much ethanol is in there?

Default My 2 cents

The way I understand it to be, is the suppliers only deliver two grades of gas to the gas stations, 87 and 91 octane being the grades...with 89 octane being a mixture of both. 91 octane maybe pure gasoline at most gas stations with the exception being Sunoco (and the local stations that they supply) as all grades of Sunoco gas is suposed to contain a percentage of ethanol.

Hey Guys here is my response from Shell when I inquired about the ethanol in gas. i like the "at present " statement.

On October 7th, 2005 the government of Ontario filed Regulation 535/05, which requires that gasoline sold in Southern Ontario contain an average of 5 percent fuel ethanol, on an annual basis, starting January 1, 2007. Shell Bronze contain 10 percent ethanol and Shell Silver, our mid grade gasoline, contain approximately 5% fuel ethanol where pumps advertise ethanol blended gasoline. V-Power, our premium grade gasoline, is ethanol free at present.

Next on the E-10 Quest For Truth is fuel economy. Ethanol does have less
potential energy (measured in BTU’s) than gasoline. SAE (Society of Automotive
Engineers) data indicates gasoline has about 18,500 BTU’s per pound, where
ethanol has only 11,500 BTU’s per pound. Being 9 parts gas and 1 part ethanol,
E-10’s formula reads like this: 90% of 18,500 =16,650, and 10% of 11,500 =
1,150. Add 16,650 + 1,150 = 17,800. Therefore, a gallon of E-10 gas has
17,800 BTU’s per pound, versus gasoline’s 18,500 BTU’s, which is a tad over a
3% loss of potential energy.
Therefore, engines running clean and fresh E-10 under lab conditions will
experience about 3% to 4% loss in fuel economy. Measuring fuel economy in
the lab never matches what happens in the real world.

Soooo, Shell is the only Ethanol free gas, which is good, but
I still need more info on the newly added Nitrogen.

I really hope Nitrogen doesn't eat away at hoses, rubbers and plastics like Ethanol does.
