Default Anyone imported from Japan?

US imports are extensively documented on this board, has anyone attempted to import a 15+ year old Porsche from Japan? Any specific difficulties over the standard US procedure? Are there brokers in the Vancouver area that can take delivery of a car at the port of entry through Ro-Ro type shipping and process the import papers?

Any experience appreciated!

Regards,
Chris

Never done that myself, but I would imagine you can find better information on Skyline board.

Good luck.

Well actually I know of 2 Porsches imported from Japan and they are both left hand drive. Bill has a 928 that is a left hand drive from Japan and Trevor has a 964 which is also a left hand drive from Japan.

My 951 is from Japan, also LHD. Most imports sold in Japan (i.e., non-Japanese cars sold in Japan) are actually LHD. RHD imports sold in Japan are heavily taxed to help protect their domestic manufacturers. Also, having LHD is seen as a status symbol in Japan, somewhat similar to the RHD JDM crowd in North America.

By the way, Rav's car was imported from Japan by Brent @ HUNTER MOTORSPORTS (Tel: 905-272-5137). Maybe you can give Brent a call.

I imported a 928 2 or 3 years ago for my personal needs ( and 2 BMW for my personal needs also). I offer that service but my website is only in french (need to translate in English but most of my business is in Quebec).

I specialize in European and LHD cars. The difficulty is to find nice examples and with the strong yen, get a good price. The import process is not that difficult.

You can take a look at www.sollev.com

Thanks for all the replies, I take it the import process isn't all that much different than a typical US/Canada import. Too bad the CND$ has weakened in the past couple of months..

Chris

I am curious what type(s) of car are you looking at? Porsches? Are there better prices than currently in US?

This is a good question. For example, the Japanese market estimate for a 964 (1991-1992) in good condition, a grade 4B, is between 17,000$US and 22,000$US including shipping to Vancouver.

I see some great prices in Porsches from Japan...has anyone attempted to buy one and have it shipped to Canada? If so, what are the cost associated in terms of duty, taxes, shipping etc!!

And was it difficult and worth it? Would love to hear your experience.

RSC Motors in Vancouver seems to bring cars over all the time. I think MAYBE Jarod at Porsche of London has as well.

There's a website for everything:

https://carfromjapan.com/

These guys will manage the whole thing. Almost bought an Alfa Brera off them...can't remember why I chickened out...
