Toronto Parking Authority (all the green P signs) is not part of the Government,
it is a private company.

That may be the cae, but if you look at the picture of the ticket in the first post, it is a City of Toronto infraction, not a Toronto Parking Authority infraction.

Exactly. Both those tickets (Christien's and mine) were issued on city streets and not in green p lots.

Are you sure?
I thought the parking authority is owned by the city.
I know all city councillers get free parking in all Green P lots.
Green P controls all the pay and display on streets which used to have parking meters.

Phil and Brian
Yes they are owned and ruled by the city,
but they are still a public company.

I performed for several of their staff parties,
and some of my friends work for them.

I believe your originial message was directed at me regarding the government's money grab, and your point was that this is a private company and not directly government run. The bottom line is that it is still the gov't that benefits from it and probably has contracted the Toronto Parking Authority in some way. Just another way the government works with the private sector to fatten both their pockets. Kind of like the police and the insurance companies.

Yes, I believe the government benefits because TPA is self sufficient.
Also, as of 2001 they actually give 25% of their income to the government,
and thus lowers local taxes.

Ok, good guy story.
Last week my bride and I are down at the CNE grounds, which has park and display parking. Crappy night with the rain just pouring down, this guy inching along following me as I'm looking for a parking spot. I'm thinking WTF 'cause there's other spots available. I park and before I have time to get out and buy a parking ticket, the guy jumps out of his car runs over in the pouring rain and hands me his $15 parking ticket with 4 hours left on it, which was actually more time than I needed. He wouldn't accept even $5, he just didn't want to see the $$ wasted. How great is that

haha nice to see a happy ending.
i always try to pass on my tickets if there's extra time. if it helps keep someone else from getting ticketed then i'm all for it. it's the parking equivalent of flashing your high beams at someone to warn them of radar ahead.

I've done the same. Believe it or not if the ticket guy sees you handing the receipt to another car the person receiving the receipt will get a parking ticket. There is some law saying the receipt is non -transferable.

Clive, the other way around (just like the wire instructions )
TPA works for itself, and gives the government a 25% cut.
Also, they have not had a loss in their 50 years of existence.
