I am intending to use Cayenne for trailering my RS. Never did it before. Have Porsche installed towbar.

My trailer's co-owner has folllowing on his SUV

-2 inch trailer hitchball

-Mountball 2 inch shock absorbing slider that goes in outer square tube of truck

-Brake controller..apparently Voyage or Excursion item. No idea about this. What do folks here use??..any info welcome.

Ronan,

Some good info ...

Electrical Info
http://www.primotrailersales.com/hitch_wiring.shtml
Brake Controllers
http://www.tekonsha.com/product1.html
Excursion is a product developed by a wholesale supplier to many RV and trailer shops - The Coast Distribution System. Not a bad controller and very similar to the Prodigy but not as pretty.
I'm not sure a Prodigy will work in a new Cayenne however. It didn't pre-facelift. We ended up installing a Voyager (old reliable) in a customer's and he hasn't had a problem.

there is a guy on here who has a trailer shop in Ottawa. he answered a question I had a while back about towing. I believe he would be very helpful if he chimes in or you do a search you might find him.

I'm towing a 24' ATC (alum) trailer with a GL450. When I went to get the brake controller installed, nobody could do it. Not the dealer - "it's not a MB part"; not the trailer shops "We don't touch Benzes". And it was actually Courtney at Autowerks that installed it. No worries. If you have any troubles with your Cayenne, take it to him.

I use a Tekonsha Prodigy in our Excursion to haul our travel trailer. I have been happy with it and it definitely is an improvement over the Voyager model (which I used previously).

Prodigy didn't like the pre-facelift Cayenne. Not sure about the new one.

I used a Cayenne Turbo for towing as well. Had the brake controller installed at Engineered Automotive, no problems.

Don't forget about the inspection sticker for your tow car!
