Default A choice and your thoughts

Hello all,

I am looking at the following types of 911's and want to know what your choice would be:

2003 to 2005 996C4S

2004 40th Anniversary

2005 Carrera and maybe an S version

If you had the choice of the 3 which would you choose. Or maybe what would you choose in the $60K to $70K range.

Very familiar with every type of Porsche but this fits the slot on how much I want to spend this time.

All vehicles will be low mileage and have gone through the PPI and hopefully Porsche warranted. Seem some 996 turbos in the price range but high mileage which does worry me.

Thanks in advance.

None of them - you've got a 993 turbo, don't you? I don't think you could improve on that, but that's just my opinion.

Are you looking for comfort and style? Performance? Track usage or just street?

I would think you could find an 03 C4S in the states for much less than $60K, no?

For the target price range, I'd go for the following:

1. 993 Turbo
2. 2005 C2S or C2
3. 2004 996 GT3 (might have to put more money in)
4. 2004 C4S

I loved my 993 Turbo and do miss it, however the comfort level and advanced chassis of the 997 models cannot be denied.

Rob, If you want a quality response, may I suggest you list your needs/wants/intended use? Every one of those cars (and others) can be the right car or the wrong car depending on who the buyer is and why he's buying. Eventhough they're all 911s, they are quite different and I've found that making a decision based on budget as opposed to needs is not always the best idea. Just my $.02.

Good point Louis.

I would use it occasionally for track days, and some highway cruising. We don't have anything near the tracks you have out East in Alberta.

A 993 C4 is what I drove vs the turbo. I agree the 993 turbo's are very cool but not sure can find something in the price range. I can imagine that the 993 turbo would be worth more in 10 years than all the cars I suggested, but although I loved the 993, I thought I would move to something a bit newer as we don't have the options for repair here vs most of the people in Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto.

Thanks
Rob

Buy the most recent you can, i.e. 2005 Carrera (S if it's in your budget).

Some food for thought:

1) If your reason for trading out of the 993 (assuming that's what you're doing) and into a newer car is reliability, you may want to do more homework on this first. Enough said.

2) Sounds as though it'll be a weekend/track toy. If so, go RWD unless the WB looks of the C4S are a must for you. If it's going to be driven in the wet/snow, get the C4S.

3) 997 over a 996 any day unless the 996 is a GT3 and the 997 isn't.

4) Any 993 will hold it's value much better than any watercooled Porsche and they are incredibly reliable, though you probably know that unless you had a bad experience. Some 993s are actually going up in value. Hey, come to think of it, maybe you should buy my C4S! JK.

The 2005 C2S would be a great weekend car. However, considering your budget, do not test drive a GT3. Stay far away from them. These cars are like crack and once you're hooked, you're a goner!

Cheers,
