Default Bumper now harmonized

RIV list to be updated within days to reflect new rules passed. OEMs can't hide behind the bumper rules anymore.

Now, according to this new rule, a bumper can conform either to the Canadian regs or the US regs. Meaning if you import a car from the US you do not have to convert the bumpers.

Many US imported cars needed expensive mods to the bumpers to conform to Canadian standards. Many, were not admissible at all. Not any more. The OEMs used the difference in bumper standards to stop or hinder importation. This will help bring the car prices in Canada in line unless the OEMs figure out another way to block imports.

The Mitsubishi Evo was one example. Couldn't be sold here in Canada because of bumper regulations.

Yes but I thought they couldn't sell them in the US either (the older ones).

Hm - I worked on the Mitsu advertising account back in 02/03 and was lucky enough to get an EVO7 to compare against the WRX/Sti in the hills above LA. Now sure about earlier models, but up until this last model year, you could buy them in the US and not Canada.

The Ferrari guys on Fchat are all excited about F355s. Same bumber rules made them impossible. The CDN owners won't be pleased though as the US floodgates open & the value/exclusivity of CDN cars declines.

But still no 2008/2009 911? Is that because the list is not up to date yet or will these never be allowed? 2008 911 used to be on the list albeit with the bumper conversion provision. But now only this:

PORSCHE:
2008 AND 2009 Cayenne
2008 AND 2009 Cayenne S
2008 AND 2009 Cayenne GTS
2008 AND 2009 Cayenne Turbo
2008 AND 2009 Cayenne Turbo S

WTF?

If you check the RIV admissability list now, it's been changed again, indicating all years are admissable, with only a note about child seat tether anchorages.

Yep, I was looking at the PDF, the HTML version seems more current.

http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/impor...st/PORSCHE.htm

PORSCHE
ADMISSIBLE:
1993 TO 1996 All models
1997 AND 1998 Boxster
1997 AND 1998 911
1999 TO 2009 All models (2008 and 2009 models: see notes)
1997 AND 1998 All other models are inadmissible

2008 AND 2009 TETHER ANCHORAGES: All 911 non-Cabriolet models are equipped with tether anchorages to accept the tether belt. However, the anchorage is covered by a carpet and thus not visible. The carpet will have to be cut away to reach the anchorage. The covering also does not have the required new labels.
