The camera is cheap. It's $179 from www.goprocamera.com It comes with a very well made suction cup mount and sticky mounts you can use with your helmet, etc. It's waterproof too so you can use it outside. I don't think I had the various adjustments tight enough which is why it still moved around a bit. I'll have to experiment more on placement. Kinda spooky how you can see my eyes in the rear view mirror. I placed the camera randomly as there is no easy to see viewfinder.

I would be sure that Emp and the other pro's would be in the 1:25's in a set up gt3.

As for the vid.. you are smooth, and it is hard to judge from web video, but you seem to be turning in late, yet apexing early in many spots.... it isn't just about hitting the pylons (and they are off in places) but your total trajectory through the corners that matters.... a little work and you will have 5 to 10 seconds off your time I am sure!

Found some interesting lap times for GT3's at Mosport at roughly 1:23-25's for 997 GT3 Cup cars: http://www.ngtmotorsport.com/Results...rt-Results.pdf

Also, some cool info on lap records that were recently broken in 2007 at Mosport. There is a race 997 GT3 (not sure if it's a Cup or RSR) in there that set a new record at 1:23.2. I would think a street GT3 would be several seconds slower than that:

Next track day which may be this Thursday with Apex, I'm going to ask Scott Mackenzie(Instructor) to drive my car without the extra 200 or so pounds in the passenger seat, and see what's up.

Last time approx 250, it's not the best time to be staring at your speedo.

Thanks for the video. I found the tip on lifting off before the hump/braking after to be instructive...will try tomorrow.

Let us know how that goes. I'm still chipping away at the braking zone in the Z. Basically, I'm lifting right before the crest and then squeezing the brakes as soon as it is cleared. However, I always have way more than enough brakes to slow for 8. Problem is, if the Z is still on the juice over the crest, it gets light (Matt did it once with me shotgun and the back end had a squirm and a shimmy).

One thing that struck me as odd about the way Apex had the flag stations- they used the tower at the very end of the back straight. So, there was a point, right before the first crest earlier on the straight, where you couldn't see over the crest and you couldn't see the flag tower. Since you'd also be doing approx 200 km/h at this point, I was wondering whey they would set it up like that. Seems to me if somebody in front of you lost it just over that first crest, you would have no warning that they would be sitting in the middle of the track as you cleared it.

That's incredible. I drove the Miata cup car at Laguna Seca and they are just not that powerful. In fact the engine/tranny is stock Miata. But it does handle like a S.O.B. I'm guessing that you can take turn 4 at Mosport flat-out, for example, as well as several other sections. Man, you would just have a ton of time to make up for the discrepancy in power going down Andretti.

Drove Boxsters out there, too, and they are no joke in the handling dept. In the right hands, you can drive those things on the limit all day long. In fact, I came very close to buying a Cayman S instead of the Z (and probably would have if the Z prices hadn't come down so much).

The really fast guys don't slow down much (if at all) for 1, 2, 4, or 8....... and they have 10 to 30 km/h more cornering speed coming out of 5b.

Don't ask me how they do it though!

I think the best way to approach Mosport is to not bring a $150k car that you owe money on I'm looking at some used 944 Turbos and 993's where someone has already spent a lot of money converting into a track-car.

I think I'd enjoy doing that much more. I would still be cautious at Mosport and treat it with respect, but with a less expensive car, I'd feel more comfortable building up to the limits on this daunting track. I felt terrible for the fellow who lost his street car this weekend and it was at the lowest speed part of the track. I can't imagine the wreckage of a car going off at 8, 2, 4 or 5a or pretty much any corner!

Going off any corner at Mosport is costly. I have seen peoples totaled their car at corner 1,2,3,4,5,8,9,10

Corner 8 could be the least costly among all since they just paved the runoff this year.

I've seen a guy go into a hospital after hitting the inside wall at 1. Given that he was in a fully prepped car with integrated cage, helmet, hans, etc... one serious impact.

Shannonville/Dunville anyone?

Sorry, the "Z" is my Z06. Pics: http://ontrackdriver.com/showthread.php?t=2

Yes, Mosport must be respected at all times. This year I've seen cars totaled at 5B and 9.

That's a good idea to get a cheaper, lighter, stiffer car, track prepped and fitted with all the safety equip. I've been thinking about that myself, as soon as I have the garage space.
