Does Dexter days have anything to do with killing bad guys, cutting their bodies up and dumping then in Lake Ontario

^ instructed mosport lapping days. Howard Dexter is a PCA member/racer and has a reputation for putting on some great events.

Omar,

I'd love to go to the track but I don't even know where to begin. Maybe you guys could give me some pointers and I promise I'll tell you when my first day is so you can all stay home that day.

try to make it on saturday. the purpose of Courtney's event is to get people informed about track days and so that we can sign up for dexter days. since you havn't done track days yet, dexter days are perfect for you because you will be in a run group with other new racers and have an instructor with you to show you the fast/safe way around, and proper technique.

i'm just finishing up a last minute essay (due tomorrow...20 pages...don't care...phoning it in at this point)....but will be more than happy to answer your questions as soon as i'm done.

Things you will need:
1) car (porsche or otherwise)
2) helmet (M2000 or newer)
3) money for track day fees. depending on the track these can be as little as 50$ or as much as 600$. a 50$ trackday as a new racer i would steer clear of. #1: its probably at shannonville, with crazy asian drivers in their hondas and open passing. for 400-600$ you will get a much better maintained facility (mosport) with professional instructors to teach you how to do things right, and manage the cars as well. in beginner groups there is controlled passing so that everyone can go home in one piece and have a good time.

4) did i mention money? you will get very hooked on this and will want to do it more and more. Mark Lue and Jason (LastGT3 i think was his username..he drives the yellow 996GT3) are much more experienced racers than I and can be a wealth of information (as are mdex and the others).

5) your car doesn't need any special parts to be track ready. it just needs to be in a good state of maintenence with 50% or more on the pads, good rotor life left, and some performance brake fluid (RBF500...if you need some i've got like 10 or so liters left on the shelf). Porsche's are great solid cars for the track. power isn't important either, learning technique and momentum thru the corners will make you faster and better than just bolting up more go fast parts. if you have a boost controller, dial the jam back to stock levels.

20 page essay, that shouldn't take you long, your GF told me your nickname is
"Speedy Gonzalez". Not sure what she was referring to, it did not sound very promising. Now I know why she kept telling me, how much she loves a
Man with a Turbo.

Omar - thanks for the insights. I'm in the same boat as Shemmer. Newbie to the extreme on anything to do with the track. So I guess I really should go to Autoworks this Saturday to start another debilitating addiction huh? Will need guidance on where/what/how much to spend on a helmet too.
