Default What's a good coffee/espresso/cappuccino etc maker?

As the title says, for a Christmas gift for the family, what is a good espresso machine? Any personal experience?

I ask because some are super expensive and I don't know if that's necessary?

Edit: Whoops, take coffee out of the question, what is a good espresso/cappuccino maker?

My dad likes his espresso. He bought this one. He seems to enjoy it. I just realized how much it costs, I think he is crazy but to each his own.

Oh man so many choices. Yeah these things can go as high as your budget it appears.

Turbodan, I've heard that Saecos are really good as well same with Delonghi. What do you have to do in order to get your espresso from these machines? (I'm clueless)

I have the fully automatic model, Saeco Talea Ring. Fabulous but pricey. One thing to look for is easy cleaning because they will need regular attention. the 'Ring' model is well designed in that and other regards,

I have a Faema Mistral...great machine for the last 5 years. It was a gift, but I know that they're around $800.

We have a Saeco classic. It is just great.

It take about 20 coffees to get all the grind, and strength settings set up to our liking, but now it is perfect. Just push one button, and you have a freshly ground coffee in seconds.

They have their own filters ($20), and they don't last long on our town water, but you can bypass the filter warning. Just be sure to keep up with the descaling.

Cheers,
Michael

Where did you pick yours up?

It appears I'll be spending more as it's not worth to buy junk.

Bob R., that machine is amazing-so many features!

I'll have to check out the others as well, thanks

This is our machine...

Sorry but it is called an "Incanto Classic".

My wifes sister gave it to us as a gift because she liked hers sooo much. I think it is now replaced by another machine. Here is the link...

BTW, there is a Saeco dealer on Steels around Wilson (near Phaff). It is also close to the Ferrari Stealer.

Hope this may help.

I have used the Saeco Vienna for the past 2 years and really like it ( only drink coffee ). Just bought two Saeco Odeo as Xmas presents because they have discontinued the Vienna series.

Well, I think this is settled then, some Saeco machine it is. They seem to have a great reputation and this will be used a lot so might as well get one that lasts. I'll post what I finally pick up and a review from my discerning taste buds

For the last 7 years, I've lined up at Tim Horton's every morning, and often other times during the day, to get coffee that tastes decent -- given up on home coffee makers. Mr.Coffee, a variety of other drip machines, a couple of percolators, and a couple of el-cheapo espresso makers.

Now you guys have got me thinking it may be possible to have a good coffee/espresso maker that offers "for real" performance. Not unlike the cars that brought us to this site.

I'd rather not spend $1200, but I'm prepared to do it, if that's what it'll take. For sure it'll pay for itself over the next 7 years!

Brent
