Engine drop "party" in the spring
If you need an engine stand, Princess Auto is a good place to source one.
Oh, mount it while more then 1 or 2 friends are around to help! Please don't ask why I am suggesting this!
If I can find my engine stand before March, you are welcome to borrow it for as long as you need. But I can't remember who has it!!
cheers,
Patrick

March 15-16 is out for me - might be able to lend a hand the following weekend.
If I'm free - I'm in for sure. Have air tools, cheesehead set and most everything else.
Even if this IS an easy job - still sounds like a blast. Guys hanging out - working cars? What's not to love???

Hi all. What about next weekend, Mar. 8 and 9? How does that work with everyone? The weekend of the 22nd is out for me, and I'd rather not leave it until the last weekend in March, because I want to make sure she's ready to go as soon as the salt is cleared. (he says while looking out the window at a fresh dumping of snow...)
Hmmmm... I am going to keep on a eye on this thread as I may actually be allowed out of the house!!
I probably have all the tools required in my "Crash Boxes".... the tools I bring to the track to fix and/or replace the parts that fall off!!
Can't you just remove the engine with a Torch?
cheers,
Patrick

So how many are in/out for a week from today, Mar. 8? The drive to Grand Bend from Toronto is probably about 3.5 hours, which is why I suggest spending the night. We've got beds for 8 including 2 sofa beds, and room for a few more on couches, though of course that's less than desirable... I figured we could all meet there late morning/early afternoon, pull the engine Sat. afternoon and drive home Sunday morning.
If anyone would like a ride I will be going in my van so room for 7. Christian, aside from who, how about what tools folks are bringing. I can bring my compressor and air tools and high lift jack with the custom adapter plate.

I might be able to make it. My brother called me last night and he's flying home for a few days so depending when he is heading out again, I might be able to make it. To me GB is only about 2 hours.
Ok, from a great list I found on Pelican, here's the list of what I don't have and/or what I'd rather not have to buy (there's a bunch of small stuff I'll buy - oversize wrenches and sockets, etc.)
small med and large torque wrenches
oil seal picker - what's this?
circlip pliers - what's this?
2 furniture dollies
The "ideally" list includes:
air compressor, impact gun, impact sockets, a set of 39 piece Sears tap and die set, various picks, magnets.
So Jim, looks like your air compressor and assorted tools would be very handy. Not sure what the tap and die set is for - maybe in case something breaks or gets stripped?
Can everyone who wants to come please pm me so I can assemble a list and send out directions?
Thanks!

circlip pliers - what's this? A specialty set of pliers (a set consists of at least 3 different pliers) to remove retainer circlips . The circlips are C shaped and have small holes at the end of the C. The tip of the pliers goes into it and opens/closes the circlips to remove it.
Both of these tools can be found at Princess Auto for very little money.
Well, with a massive thanks to Jim, we got the engine out yesterday. We got to the lake about 1:30, had a quick lunch then got to work. We got the engine out, transmission separated, tools put away and garage cleaned up all in time to get home for about 1am this morning. Unbelievable! But there's no way I could have got this done without Jim's tools and, more importantly, know-how, so I'm hugely in his debt!
Now the real fun begins - transmission rebuild and clutch replacement. And replacement of the pilot bearing, which was found to be in scraps.
Obligatory goofy engine-bay pics:
