Let me know if you are going to Audio One. I know Alex well and can put it in a good. Awesome guys at A1. I purchased my B&W speakers from him but other components elsewhere. It can get expensive if you are doing it all @ once.

I actually have no prob w/ futureshop bestbuy type places if you do not
want to get into crazy money, and want a setup that will get the job done.

If this sounds like you then DO NOT go to Brack Electronics. It's like
home theatre xanadu and you will walk out poor like me.

I don't have a full home theatre system set up, but I am buying items
piece by piece with the intention of getting serious sh*t that (hopefully)
will not require replacing.

My room is not big. Yours is and to fill that with proper sound is going
to cost you. Video is important but SOUND IS MOST IMPORTANT and
to fill your space with incredible sound can easily break $10K on
speakers alone. I could go on. Like i said it gets ridiculous.

Mark's got a sweet setup.
Barrington.
Nice layout. I always liked the B&W 800 series ever since my brother in law brought home the 800D mains. I thought I was going to cry when I heard Malcolm McLaren's 'Maddam Butterfly' playing on Macintosh amps.
You're welcome to come over and spin some vinyl. I have the JBL concert series with QSC amps.

I'm loosing my mind trying to plan a decent 6.1 or 7.1 system.

I'm going to take measurements tonight but off the top of my head i think the room is 20ish feet wide, 10 feet tall and must be at least 50 or so feet deep (its a basement room, split into 3 sections: roughly 20 feet of dance floor, 20 feet of home gym and 20-25 feet is home theater space).

Questions come in the following format:
1) Will bookshelf loudspeakers be able to fill the space adequatly? Or will I have to go with floorstanding tallspeakers?
2) Are there any wireless speakers that are worth a damn?
3) Recommended brands for around 1500-2000$ for a set of speakers and maybe another 500-800$ for the receiver?
I suggest you wire the home theater separate. Bose satellite speakers with an additional powered sub woofer are all you need for that aspect.

The key to home theater is the placement of the speakers.

Then you can wire the other areas with a 4 channel amp. Run 1 set of speakers into each zone.

wireless speakers are crap

In large areas a book self won't don't cut it. Go with floor speakers, I am not going to go into brands. You can do quite well with cheap speakers. Unless your ears are trained you will never hear a difference in the quality of what is out there.
My old pair of cerwin vegas used to rock my old 1200 sq ft basement really well.

Check out the articles on home theater at www.axiomaudio.com. They build great speakers at their factory near Huntsville and are happy to give advice by phone/email even if you don't buy from them.

This is the defacto site on the internet if you have any questions about home theatre. From installation to hardware to software recommendations, reviews, tech support and any other type of question you might have.

If you have time, check out the theatre gallery. Some wicked setups.

Good idea Omar! I could make a "RL Cruising CD" just for the Rennlist community. If there is enough interest maybe I can start a new thread. Everyone interested can submit their songs of choice. Just in time for xmas folks.

You guys don't want to hear mine, I doubt! It's either old school indie punk or modern classical! Of course, in the 911 driving music is chosen pretty much solely on the basis of decibel level, as in, what music can compete with the engine?

Well, I'm a Linn fan myself. They make mostly high end stuff though. You can check out my set-up on the Audiogon site in the Virtual system section:

http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr...3440&read&3&4&

You should sign up for the Linn Klimax system give away:

about 100K $ for a kit with only 3 pieces of gear :-0

Seriously, you will not be happy with bookshelf speakers in a large room nor with low power amps. I suggest pre-loved gear. Try Audio Club store in Montreal at (call for more gear):

http://www.audioclub.com/magasin/

Enjoy!

I have Naim Audio in my house, strictly for Stereo. They also make components for home theatre.

If you are really serious, I would suggest putting up a wall between the two rooms to make for good acoustics. But that might be getting a little crazy
