Default GM Canada says no to U.S. cars

My friend just bought a new Z06 and was refused warranty work untill he reaches 6 months and 12,000k, not either or..both.

what you mena 6 months or 12K, he can do warrenty work after that? or only untill 6 months or 12k From New Car?

A GM car that is imported must be at least 6 months old AND have 12K Kms on it for warranty in Canada...

Not a big deal really.
In 6 months you shouldn't need any warranty work done. If you do then just drive over the border and get it done.

Longstanding policy and a small price to pay considering the savings. However, when I had a Z06, it took me about 2 years to put 12000 km on it!

Article in today's National Post (business section) talks about a new class action lawsuit against automobile pricing inequities, warranty issues, etc. Toronto law firm is Juroviesky and Ricci.
Won't be the first one. Who knows where it will go.

The last three new cars I've bought (MB, BMW, Porsche) have had warranty issues in the first 8 weeks of ownership. There's always teething problems. GM knows this and is setting this up as a deterrent for cross-border shoppers. If you can't drive your car because of a warranty issue, how do you get to 12,000 kms? Catch-22...

As an aside, the only cars I've never had problems with in the first year of ownership were Japanese. (Honda and Nissan).

So let me get this straight...

Let's say that I live in the "US of A". Let's say I buy one of them-there real fine GM vee-hicles!!!

Then I decide to visit those fine Canadian folk and want to drive my GM to the great white north.

Then I get to Yellowknife and that fine GM POS F#CKS up and needs repair. Are you suggesting that I'm screwed??? No Warranty!!!

Sounds like BS to me. If I drive my GM to USA from Canada, do I have the same issue?

No they will warranty the car in Canada if your from the states, they wont warranty a US car in Canada if the owner has a Canadian address.

Curious what sector the purchaser earns his/her income and how domestically dependant .

Just go to the US for warranty service if it's close enough.

If it's a minor thing pay out of pocket with some of the savings.

I spend enough time with the OEMs to know that what GM (and others BTW) are doing is a stop gap measure to slow the tide of US imports until, in due time, they are able to move the pricing closer together. However, it will never be truly at parity simply because we are such a smaller market than the US and can't enjoy the same purchasing power as them. The US is like a big box store and we're like a little mom and pop convenience store...guess who gets the better deal from distributors?
