Default Way OT but local: anyone recognize this bird or insect sound?

I'm trying to identify whatever nocturnal creature is making this sound:
http://www.calfinancial.ca/bird.mp3

These bastards perch in the tree outside our bedroom window and squawk about an hour before dusk to about 2 or 3 in the morning. We often have to close the window just to sleep. I want to find some way of getting rid of them - not killing them, just something to deter them from our front lawn. I'm posting here because I know bird and insect species tend to be specific to geographic and climatic areas. I've lived in 5 or 6 different cities, and this is the only area I've ever heard them.

I can't get a picture because they only come out at night, and hide amongst the leaves.

Thanks for any leads, or links to post this message on a more appropriate forum!

Wow, what a coincidence! I finally get frustrated enough to research the problem and bam, the next day there's an article in the paper about it!!! Thanks so much for posting that - we don't read the Star, so I wouldn't have noticed it otherwise.

They haven't yet posted the audio, but linked to some other recordings of katydids, and it's the closest match yet. It's not 100% exactly the same, but I'm probably splitting hairs. I'm bookmarking that article for when they post a follow-up as to how to get rid of the damn things!

Thanks so much! I owe you a beer!
