Hey all,

First post here so PLEASE be gentle with me I'm just about to put down $27k for a 2001 Boxster S Tip with 96k on it. Grey with black interior, crested seats, xenon, heated seats, etc. Not sure if I'm getting a good deal or not? Previous serviced @ Pfaff (receipts provided).. only knock against it is the fact that it has been running on snow tires during the summer (the owner does not have a set of summer tires for me, he drove it last winter).. just want some pointers if it's a good deal or not? I drove the Z3 2.5 before the Boxster and it just blows the Z3 away in ALL aspect...

any comments/advices appriciated!!

How about a PPI @ a dealer? Not a good idea?

96K is kinda high, talk him down a bit... Or spend 5K more and get a 2001-2002 BMW M3

A PPI at the shop where the seller is known and has the car serviced is never the best idea, because of who the shop's loyalty is to. Furthermore, dealerships charge twice what independent shops do for PPIs usually, and there's no evidence that they do any more thorough a job, or are really any more qualified to do the job. That said, when I sold my boxster the buyer had a PPI done at Mantis, where I go for service. I think they were very thorough, fair and professional. I would've been disappointed had they tried to be dishonest and said "give me $100 and we'll overlook this problem or that problem", and it would've cost them my future business.

But definitely for a winter driven car with 96K kms on it, have a PPI done somewhere.

Good, it means you are all set for winter already! Joke aside, it is good to know that the car has been driven all year long and about 15000 per year (Porsches are meant to be driven, not sitting in a garage). +1 on what the others said: get a PPI (at Autowerks in Woodbridge for instance) and if the car passes, get it and drive it the way you stole it. See you this winter on the road (look for a '95 993 plowing snow...)

That seems expensive for an 01 with that many Km. Keep looking you will find a better deal.

Well I'll give Autowerks a call and see if they have time to do a PPI for me today... otherwise... I THINK I might have a S sitting in my driveway sometime this week...

Are you 100% sold on the boxster? i would encourage you to go out and drive a +2004 S2000 before you make your final decision.

otherwise, enjoy the boxster! they are a lot of fun.

Never ever ever ever buy a used Porsche without a PPI. No matter where you buy it from, never buy a used Porsche without a PPI. The PPI should also include a leakdown and compression test. You have no idea what the previous owner has done to the car, trust no one...

Trust no one, absolutely... I have a 25 000 dollar '86 951 that's worth about 9k. Saved up all through high school and bought it for 10k CDN (even had a PPI done). The car was from the states and when I brough it into BC a shop told me I needed another 5k into it to insure it. They also recommended that I take it to Calgary and have the dealership tear it apart. South Center Fine Cars told me that to do the basics and have the car reliable I needed another 11k invested.

It's prevented me from going to college (until next school year finally).

Too much money for an 01 with almost 100k, I hate to say it but it sounds like its 5-7 K too much . But if you want that car its your $$ spend it as you feel.I will give you an example of a US car I looked at for my girl, its an 02 Boxster S, great options low K at only 40 K... not miles... I could have landed it for the same $$ as the 01 your looking at.

One other point are you sold on a tip? I'm thinking the resale value will drop about $3-5k per year on a tip boxster.

I'd pass..too many kms, driven in the winter too...+ its an auto. Yuck.

I'd shop around my friend. Get a low km car, that's not seen the damn salt.

Plus a stick is waaaaaay more fun!
