Bunch of experts, eh? Look, I certainly wasn't saying that anyone should walk in there and buy it sight unseen. Hell even if these guys are on the level, there could be lots of stuff from the PO that they're not aware of.

I didn't say people should get an independent opinion because I thought it went without saying when buying a car.

I think we can get some friendly closure here...

Mamoguy brought to our attention an interesting find from a dealer he's had luck with
Concerned fellow Rennlisters highlighted some of the risks and trouble spots with that car
All agreed that an independent PPI is STILL crucial
We all became friends and went for a drive in the sunshine in our cool cars

The End.

Not yet. Someone can buy me the car. Then we can all have closure. Happy closure.

I've seen this car there before, few months ago... seemed to be missing a rear window for a while and might have got moisture on the inside. Front end does look mis-aligned but that doesn't necessarily have to be from an accident.

It has been there for a few months though, either sitting on the side of the road or in their parking lot... they have had several 944s there IIRC

For anyone interested there may be a few things to check out before even getting a PPI that might tell a story .

said tensioner, pads and J tube.
timing belts and ballance shaft belts ( althugh changing them is mandatory anyway without proof it has been done. )

raise the car and see if you can rock the front wheels top to bottom and check for ball joint - A arm wear.
check the muffler and exhaust carefully for cracks and damags ( the S has a bigger and heavier exhaust than the reg 944 )
look for oil in the coolant ( signs of heat excahanger gasket failure )
Remove the plugs and look for oil on the outside .. signs of rocker cover oil leakage , common on the S

check condition of motor mounts especially passenger side and make sure heat shield is intact.

If all this checks out you are off to a good start.

PS I had a 16 v 944 for about 8 years.
