cheaper premium gas at esso
anyone notice that esso is selling premium 91 octane gas for 6 cents over the price of regular instead of the typical 11 cents? i'm guessing esso is trying to phase out 89 octane as it's also the same price as 91.
any insights into what's going on here? gas companies used to try to justify the 11 cent upcharge for higher cost of producing premium gas.

I believe it's an ethanol issue......
the GTA has been converted to Ethanol Regular unleaded, most are selling the 10% blend.
There was no premium ethanol available at most places, so if you purchased premium you were getting conventional regular. This lead to an issue with blender pumps making mid-grade fuels.....so most are phasing out the mid (89), and just selling regular (E10) and premium (conventional).

Sunoco 94 has 10% ethanol ... bad for some of the P-cars. Shell 91 is the only one without ethanol added. Look at the pumps some time and check the content of ethanol.
Also, the oil industry has a glut of product at the moment and are trying to reduce their stocks .... guess we conserved too much!

In this months Provinz, John Adam says he got much better mileage while in the us because there gas doesn't have ethanol like sunoco 94. I use the 94 in all my cars and am considering switching. I remember a few years ago that shell's gas actually was harmful to most cars. I can't remember why but they said prolonged use caused some type of damage to engine. anybody know what I am talking about?
