Thanks for the info - I'll take that one off my list. Looks like I got lucky the couple of time I was there.

If your looking for good, fresh fish but don't particularly care if the surroundings are 5 star or not, there is a great place called "Ichiban" on Spring Garden near Sheppard and Yonge. Not a scary place, just not posh or anything over the top. There are more than a couple of similarly named ones though, so be careful. I think Ichiban means #1 in Japanesse, so it's too general a name to be trademarked, I would think....

Consistantly fresh product and huge volume/turnover.....very yummy!

my cousin used to goto skool at that art school that was up near earl haig or watever (it was on spring garden). Can't say that my car was keyed but I could definitly do without being hit on by jailbait.

Just turn and walk away....walk...away....fast.

Kaji is great, and I liked Hiro's on front st as well -- both places aren't cheap if you have a sushi addiction though.

Our problem is that all 3 of our kids are into sushi too (8, 6 and 4) and my 8 year old in particular is a sashimi monster so our bill is always ridiculous.

Ok here's a place that's quite good and VERY CHEAP. Good selection of stuff, all you can eat, and only $15 (tax, tip, drink, dessert, all in!) for lunch and if I remember correctly $19 all in for dinner:

Yang-yang's kitchen on Hwy 7, east of Warden. The only thing is that their service is LOUSY, ie very slow. The trick is to get there early before the crowds and order everything you want up front and they bring it all out as it's prepared on the fly.

Anyone know of a good + cheap place up in Richmond Hill? We typically get in sushi once a week and right now we're going to Mine Sushi on Yonge which is decent, but overpriced. Warning to other parents: Don't get your kids into sushi ... it's cute at first, but they'll drive you out of house and home!

LOL, I didn't mean it like that......
I work just down the street, and live a few more blocks up north from there.

What I meant is that the Ichiban decor is not exactly fansy-shmancy (although they renovated it a couple years back...)...nice enough, but probably not where you'd want to go for, say, a dinner date.

We used to play floor hockey at that art school.....

Yes, along with about 3 other sushi places on the same short block! LOL!

It's a Korean neighbourhood.....so they obviously love their sushi!
