Cafe Michi used to be good (I was a regular 2-3 x a week). A few months ago they underwent an ownership change and the quality of fish went down, quality of service decreased, yet the menu prices remained the same. Although still better than your corner store Ichibans, Michi is not what it used to be both in terms of service and food quality. I don't go back anymore.

Another vote for Kaji. Pay by cash and/or become a regular and they won't charge you tax.

Same here, it's quite good and fresh! I'm still hesitant of Sushi after living near Tokyo for a a couple years. Some of the customs are quite, uhmm....'adventurous.'

Toronto Life magazine always has good reviews, check their site www.torontolife.com

I used to work for a japanese multinational company. Some of the stuff we had was too wierd for me. For example:

- fresh uni out of the shell
- live lobster susumi (carved in front of you ... and it was still moving!)

The thing I miss about japan is the yakatori bars; they haven't caught on here.

Torontolife has limited coverage of sushi restaurants especially north of eglington area.

yakitori bars are restaurants where you can walk up, order your choice of skewers (various meats and veggies) and make it made in front of you (like a sushi bar). yakitori goes well with beer, cold sake and the salty accompaniments like edamame.

Another "once a beacher always a beacher" here that frequents Aki.

But for Deadeye - check out Sushi Inn in Yorkville. I know - I know - but really good Sushi, excellent service and - wait for it - fair pricies!

Plus you get the added bonus of seeing lots of great cars parked and cruising by.

Then you can walk around the corner to Audio Excellence and get your ear chewed off from Peter about how solid state is crap and the only way to tell if a speaker has been abused is by autopsy.

We go to SI all the time.

if i remember correctly, you weren't a big fan of sushi when we went for lunch several months ago. swing by and we'll go for more exotic sushi ... you can have my uni as i hate the taste. btw, i meant uni served in the shell ... they remove the beak and you scoop out the contents, roe and uni ... it looks disgusting and smells worst.

since you like wasabi, be sure to try wasabi ice cream.

Default Here's a really good one.....close to you...

GAL sushi.

Hwy 7, just east of Bayview, in the first large strip plaza on the north side.
Excellent sushi, takeout available, and inexpensive......usually order there once a week or so and take home.

Just had lunch at Momiji on Bloor St east of Royal York. Great food, and great prices. They do takeout too. It's one of my favorites sushi places now in TO.

don't knock it until you tried it.

this is part of the yin/yang dichotomy like:
- sweet and sour
- fire and ice
- spicy and cold

Another vote for Sushi Kaji. Simply amazing. As for Cafe Michi, I only have the non-sushi dishes there.

But for the weekly non-special occasion sushi, I just head to Gonoe Sushi (Don Mills/Lawrence).

There's a restaurant called Wasabe on Hwy 7 and Leslie - Japanese buffet, all you can eat including Sushi and "Sushami" that is ordered from your table and made fresh. Dinner was $ 35 each. Check it out.
