I'll be there on Saturday as well. Omar, I was just wondering if i might be able to borrow your helmet for the day? I am going around the track with NOBLE and you need a helmet. I've heard the FEAR part of his brain was replaced with ACCELERATION, so I don't want to take any chances!!

Woah, what a wicked day slip sliding around in the rain!!!! I've never driven in such wet conditions, esp. on a track where you can take some chances. Lots of great opportunities to explore over- and understeer. Wet days should be a mandatory part of DEs. I remember my first DE at Shannonville with UCR - they said 2 "offs" and you're gone for the weekend. That's silly, on a track like SHannonville, Dunnville or TMP - you should be encouraged to spin a few times!!! I managed to bridge the gap between thinking and knowing intuitively what to do when you start to slide, and man, it works. Squeeze on the power, steer where you want the car to go, and if you lose it, 2 feet in (only happened once, and I was driving someone else's car).

Anyway, it was a total blast!

Noble, what happened to you? Did the rain scare you off? What happened to "***** of steel" guy? Or are Loti like Ferraris, and melt in the rain?

how was the diagnostic session, did you figure out your car's issue?
also, Noble's car is on R-compounds from the factory....R-compounds + rain = WTFBBQ so he prolly just said screw it, not worth the trip down.

I was on R-compounds, (RA1s) no problem - I had way better grip than my dad's 05 Corvette on street tires.

Still had performance issues towards the end of the day. Next step is a new coil. Grrrr...

you're RA-1's were full tread right?
they're amazing tires in the rain..and once you wear away the tread blocks, they apparently just get better and better

Not full tread, no - they've got 6 or 7 days at Mosport on them (though 2 were UCR DE days, so very little time) and a TMP day or 2 on them. When the tread's gone, they'll be really sticky in the dry, but **** in the wet, and I don't have special wet tires, and only one extra set of rims, so I'll probably just replace them with new ones.

255/40/15, I believe. I know they're 40/15s for sure, just not positive of the width (7" front/8"rear rims).

Oops, not even close. 205/50/15 front, 225/50/15 rear. I couldn't believe the traction I was getting. Granted, I'm driving a very underpowered car, unlike a lot of the other guys out there, but I was able to keep up with most of them. I was about in the middle of the pack. By the time I was comfortable with the track and the tires, I was really surprised at how close to dry speed I was coming, albeit not quite on the race line in many turns. And the ends of the straights were really greasy, so speeds were much slower there.

My dad was driving a new (to him) 05 Corvette on street tires. I took it out for a couple laps, going REALLY easy on it, knowing there are a lot of ponies in there. I still managed to spin it on my 2nd lap, and even then, in turn 4 (if I'm #ing correctly), a high-speed right hander. Just a bit of oversteer coming out of the turn, and I was unable to correct it. I couldn't believe the difference in traction between the two cars. I realize power plays into that, but the vette also ways, what, 1000 lbs more than my 911? And a 51/49 f/r weight distribution, compared to my 40/60.
