Okay so I got a speeding ticket :-(
But all is not lost
firstly this happened in the US ( NY ) they have a deal with Ontario and info is swapped. ,..but ....
the guy wrote down the wrong number for my drivers license number he put in an extra digit on the front ...Y6811.. he wrote Y66811.
Can I get off on this technicality? It would not be worth driving back to go to court but if this technicality would get me off I could pay a points guy. Any one know any police that could answer this question for me ?
Thanks

i don't know if that will get you off..but then again i'm not sure if it will come back to you. they might search you up by address...but if the computer goes by driver's lisence number it will come back with an error..and since ontario isn't getting any money out of it...they probably won't pursue it.

"[...]that doesn't matter because we can simply look up the license plate number. However, if your license plate number was wrong then you would be off because that is not your car or similarly if your driver's license #/info was wrong-that's not you[...]"
Sooooo, you might not completely get off but knocked down for sure. But I also think Driver's License numbers have an error checking number/algorithm in them sort of like a SIN #....worth a shot to fight!

You see that is the dilema, do i contact them and go to court and risk them correcting? or do I just ignore this and risk getting arrested the next time in the US, or worse , can not get my sticker renewed..

Hmmm, my cousin is an Officer in Lethbridge, Alberta, they get a lot of people from the States getting into trouble and vice versa. I'll send him an email tonight for ya

put it this way:
- in order to fight it, you will have to go to new york Rite? so ur screwed anyhow.
- If you call them about it they may change it: your screwed anyhow
just leave it and if you get a notice of conviction in the mail, the plan didn't work...renew ur insurence policy before the points go on your record or something

I would be suprised if the points go to your Ontario license. more likely come after you if you don't pay. just pay it when they send you something in the mail.
I had one in buffalo a few years back and it didn't even say the fine just plead guilty or not and they send you notice in the mail...I thought this was kinda wierd.

Thanks for the help everyone.
Bye the way the points definitely DO transfer from NY state to Ontario and vice versa. They convert how much you were speeding to kilometers and and post it as an out of province ticket on your record.
DAn you are correct, the last time was the same , I sent the ticket in and they sent a notice of how much it was.
This time was the same so I sent a note saying " wrong client ID , please dismiss the ticket" without of course telling them the right one. We will see what happens, best case they have to dismiss it , as there is reasonable doubt, worse case they tell me to come down and I am found guilty, worth a day off work. If any one else has any advise please keep it coming.

I missed the NY reference. I was driving back with wife & 3 kids after 10 fun-filled days on the holiday road - Orlando, Myrtle Beach, DC & Manhattan. 2500 + miles or whatever it was. In Buffalo on the eastern loop hwy, a NYHP pulled me over & wrote me up. I was not happy.
