Powerful video and there are many more out there on animal rights issues.
I personally do not and will not buy dolphin meat and do not condone what they do in Japan. BUT unless you drive a green car and don't eat meat, don’t be an advocate on issues on cruelty to animals and environmental matters. It comes across a little hypocritical. IMO

Signed!

I saw this video a few months ago. I can say that barbaric behaviour still exists to this day especially in China and Japan. Japan is one of the most technologically advanced nations in the world, yet this means nothing. There is hard evidence how they conduct this inhumane slaughter and to see these highly intelligent dolphins needless suffering underlines that they are still living in caves. Check this other video from China’s fur farm and judge for yourselves: http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/Prefs.asp?video=fur_farm.

My motto: Respect all life including animals if you want to be respected! Don't harm animals; they have the same right to live as humans.
Animals convey emotion, intelligence and innocence. Very few of us imitate these qualities.

I agree that the video is cruel and I do not agree with what they are doing.

However tell me (or teach me) why killing a dolphin is different than killing a salmon. Just because the salmons are smaller, are more abundant, and maybe not as intelligent doesn't mean that killing it is not as cruel as killing dolphins.

I totally agree with you. In principal there really isn't a difference. What this video is attempting to demonstrate is the social unacceptability of this specific uncultured and primitive way of thinking. For example, just a few months ago, China was culling dogs from the streets all in the name of “population control”!? WTF, imagine you walking your dog and these crazy people running behind you clubbing your dog till it stops twitching or hanging them? There are humane methods of control. Spay and neuter comes to mind. After all it’s the world’s factory and one of the richest countries. You see where that uncultured and primitive way of thinking creeps in?

Bottom line, the slaughter of any animal is wrong. The media cunningly shows candy wrapped burgers and sushis but we socially accept it. What we don’t see is the ultimate result…the crated animal’s ultimate fate ending violently. I firmly believe that if slaughter houses had glass walls (read public eye) there would be far less carnivores. Good news- The world is catching on. You don’t buy they won’t die!

I agree ... I find it interesting that we extend human notions, such as the right to live, into the rest of the animal kingdom ... do you think the lion, seeing an endangered prey animal says to itself "Well they have as much right to life as I, therefore I'll just have to go hungry today, and so will my cubs" Nope ... the Savage Garden is just such ... and if the lion is fast enough and strong enough to bring down it's prey, than it will continue to live ...

I know it is hard to watch ... but they are a different culture, with different norms ... and I'm sure that we in the West do things, that if captured on film, and shown to them, would freak them out too... wait, if they have access to YouTube ... they probably already are!

I tend to be outraged by human acts of cruelty against animals where it is for our entertainment or sport, not for necessity ... that is why I draw the line at Circuses, and hunting ... not for me.

... interesting note ... we are not the only animal to kill out of sport, or revenge ... Chimps have been captured on film murdering others of their social group to move up in their family structure, or to gain a higher mating status ... and there is a video of a family of Elephants killing a pride of Lions, because the Lions had killed one of the baby Elephants earlier in the day.

You're confusing the behaviours between the animal kingdom and humans. One has and animal instinct, humans have a choice. And a whole lot of it is due to how you were raised.
You made a good point about refusing to take part of anything that elevates harming animals. I stand by that too. This is a sensitive subject that can be contested for days. Let’s sign the petition with the attitude that it will make a difference.

I guess it is spam but technology can be used for good and evil. How often do you have the chance to do good without costing you a dime. This was the good.
Go for a veggie burger, it's healthier and tastes the same.

+10

We don't need everyone to flood Rennlist with whatever their "cause" is. If you want to talk about eating veggie burgers, go right ahead, but post it somewhere else. This is a Porsche forum, and the last time I checked, Dolphins didn't drive Porsches (well, maybe Flipper did).

Relax PooPo. Actually, I like vegetarians. Especially with some fava beans and a nice chianti.
