pfaff tuning is pretty great group of people.

pfaff the dealership is hit or miss. i'm having a hard time deciding whether or not the salesman we were talking to was subtly insulting my car/myself or not.

im pretty sure he was...but in such a way that i can't call him out on it lol.

downtown fine cars has been 1000% fantastic to me though, all three departments.

Omar talk to Phil... the message received is the message sent ... if you perceived that he was insulting you, what he intended meant nothing .. customer service 101. in todays world of stiff competition you have to do everything to give yourself the edge.
I must say I was impresed with downtown .. I went there to get some hardware for my exchangers and you would think I had just bought a brand new car .. mind you what I payed for 6 barrel nuts .. I could have bought a brand new chezc car of some ilk.

I have to say that my experience with Pfaff has been great thus far. I bought my car from John over the Xmas holiday. Both he and the Pfaff organization were a pleasure to deal with.

Pfaff has arranged to pick up my summer tires from my office downtown and squeeze the car in-between appointments for a tire swap on Friday in time for Mosport on Saturday. What makes this so positive? It was organized two days before the appointment - most services need to be booked weeks in advance.

I also had great experiences with Hans @ Downtown when going through the sales process and would have loved to buy a car from him. In the end there was just nothing that came across the used lot that fit my needs.

Will future experiences change the way I feel about these two Dealerships? I hope not, because I'd work with either of them in the future.

Edit - sorry for getting it off topic - see you at at the event

Geoff,
Glad you had a great experience with them. They do treat customers who bought from them very well...others, not so well. I think it's to be expected that the service department gives some priority to their in-house customers, but Pfaff seems to go out of it's way to marginalize anyone who didn't buy from their sales dept. See this thread
I dealt with John for 7 months and he was very professional up until the time I bought my car from a private seller because he couldn't locate a suitable car for me. In his defence, the pre-owned inventory for '02-'04 C4S's was pathetic through the CDN dealer network and left me little choice but to find one on my own (and save almost 30K!). I even sent him a really nice long email thanking him for his time and assuring him that I would refer anyone to him looking to buy a new P-car. Unfortunately, he didn't even acknowledge my email which pretty much sent me a signal that he was pissed off and pouting about losing a sale. In all the training I do with dealers, I always emphasize that you should remain courteous to customers even if they don't purchase from you, because someday they or someone they referred to you will be back. From there it just deteriorated when I tried the service dept for my 48K maintenance.
On the other hand DFC, seems to take the approach that if you didn't buy from them the first time, they will try to win you over with their courteous service...much smarter strategy IMHO.

Hey Phil,
Sorry to hear that Pfaff treated you like that (btw - that other thread is crazy).

I wrote a similar email to Hans (DFC) whom I worked with for nearly a year trying to find the right car. He responded with a nice email acknowledging my purchase decision and some kind words about enjoying the car.

I had a good experience at Pfaff.
When I was looking for my P-car I also went to Pfaff and talked to John Hulley. I received excellent service with John. He let me drive a number of 996 and 993 to see what I was more comfortable with since both were in my price range but, at the time, they didn't really have what I was looking for. Just before I bought my car from a private seller several weeks later, I called John to let him know what I was going to do -just as a courtesy. During the conversation he told me that if I gave him the VIN he would check the on the car and fax me any information he found. He sent me a bunch of info including all the work done on the car at Pfaff that was in the copmuter, all completed and open recals and much more. Not bad service.

I don't want to be a fence sitter so here it is...

I just bought my 993 at Pfaff. The salesman I dealt with was very polite, courteous, helpfull, professional, kind and most of all, I feel like I was treated fairly. Sorry to hear that others may have had a poor experience in their view. I own a business and most of my clients are very happy and satisfied. I can't always please everybody although I always try to. I'm sure somebody is unhappy about something they experienced at any dealer. Just my $.02

I will attend Shift into spring.

^ there are no doubt excellent people at Pfaff...stereotyping them all as bad would be pretty...well...ignorant on anyone's behalf..but there is no denying that some of them are arrogant.

obviously if you buy an expensive car off of them (or 4 of them) , they are going to treat you like you are the bomb.

they might be nice people but they are not very nice to your pocketbook. check out their prices and compare it to what it cost to import products directly ... the difference is BIG!
