Remembering
Today 11th month ,11th day ,11th hour we remember the fallen soliders that gave their lifes for all our freedom . Freedom is not given it is earned . for that I am grateful for our Arm Forces and all the ones around the world that has given their lifes for our freedom.
IN FLANDERS FIELDS
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

I had grandfathers that fought on opposite sides of the war. My German grandfather lost two brothers on the Russian front.....he was also a soldier that was ordered into the invasion of France.
My Canadian grandfather never saw action, but he was stationed in Newfoundland ready to go if they needed more troops over in Normandy.

My father was R.C.A.F. stationed in Iceland. He was a WOP/AG. (Wireless operator/ air gunner). He was part of Coastal Command and they flew sub patrols etc.... Reading a newspaper from last week I guess there are only three WW1 soldiers alive in Canada now. That war ended 88 years ago...wow...If those veterans are 105 years old now that would mean they were only 17 at the wars end in 1918... I know when I go to our local branch of the Legion the Veterans are getting fewer and fewer..............
Great post - I'll add my thanks to all who have served Canada - helping keep the world safer for all of us.
Canadians made critical contributions in both world wars and countless peacekeeping missions since.
Please don't confuse this sentiment with an endorsement of the ill-advised and horribly excuted US imperialism currently masquaring as an effort to "make the world safer". Nothing could be further from the truth.
