If you are looking for a "safe track day" choose one that has a full course of marshals.
Even the best drivers in the world put cars into the wall. You can not control what other drivers do around you, all you can do is maximize the distance between them and yourself (if youre not comfortable) and make sure that you dont come around 8 or 3, or wherever, to a wall of cars.
Now that I have stopped laughing off my seat..I wanted to possible add something. Yep, people do make mistakes, get cocky, and even if they have shown an instructor and have fooled them that they understand the track AND THEMSELVES, guys will routinely stuff cars on cold tires because they rush and cross lines.
I cannot comment on anyone elses mishap sine I have not a clue what happened. If you crash early in a session or temp is down (the track didnt do it you did!!) then I would bet (but not be certain) that we is driving faster to fast for the conditions at some point of the track.
Is one track safer than others?? Is the 401 safe? Is the 407 or 404 better?
Is Saturday better than Monday??
All I know is I had some great DE an will do it again.
Christien, FWIW - I have about 15,000 km at that track...and it still should scare me...but I take my time. I think it is well run. I gained the equivalent of about 100 hp in absolute performance by driving better (depite ice pellets).
send me a PM and I will tell you about the "other" instructors that you might want to avoid...
