Default Question about fuel grade

This sounds like a really dumb question, but since I couldn't find any match using the o' search function, I'm starting a new post to ask...

I'm reading the 993 owner manual, and it says I need to use RON 98 for fuel. Now the highest grade of fuel the last time I checked( My daily driver is an accord which uses regular so excuse my lack of knowledge :P ) here in Vancouver BC is 92 octane. Supposedly the RON 98 is ~93.1 in US octane measure. So if I use 92 would that electronic anti-knock system kick in and keep the car from knocking and drive fine without problems, or I have to go find a gas station that does have 95?

Thanks for answering this newbie question

Premium or Super is what your car needs and the brand doesn't matter. Personally, I don't like Esso (for a variety of reasons) but prefer to run it on Sunoco 94.

I put HUSKY's 94 octane premium in all my inventory.......in a pinch SHELL V-power works fine (91 octane)..........the motronic will adjust for gas quality and all the other variables.....no worries.

I've been running on Sunoco Ultra94 since I brought the car back from the US, but I noticed that the car isn't as peppy and also guzzles more fuel than when I filled up in US using their 91 or 92 (Shell). I might switch to Shell 91 here next empty tank to see if I notice a difference.

I've been filling up with Esso's 91 octane juice since I bought the car. Recently, I decided to try all the grades to see if I could notice a difference. In combination with a good tune-up, regular 87 octane fuel seems to be doing more for my car than 91 octane fuel.

It happens to be easier on the wallet too. Maybe I'm fooling myself?
Regardless, the manual does say recommend a minimum of 87.

The very best gas in BC is Chevron 94 octane . P-cars here are almost exclusively using it . You notice difference mostly when you go 250 kph n up

Sunoco 94 has ethanol which will reduce your gas milage. I started using Shell 91 (also the cheapest price during the wars) and noticed an increase in milage. The power seems to be the same as 94 ... just my butt dyno YMMV.

Esso and PC used to provide a higher sulfer content years ago to their pumps. Sunoco was the best followed by Shell. IIRC the PPM for Esso and PC was around 300 PPM and Shell around 80 PPM. Sunoco was close to 50 PPM. Again, this is going by memory of posted fuel results in the media a few years back. Our German HP vehicles require 90 octane and higher to run on ... same as my LR. 91 will be fine .... and as an added bonus, my tank holds 95 liters ... so I can go from price war to price war. Lately Wed and Thur evenings it will drop down to $0.94 a liter for reg., gas. 91 being somewhere around $1.01 a liter.

Been thinking that it was the ethanol and will be switching to Shell 91 after this tank of gas. Bonus is that there's a lot more Shells near me and everywhere I go compared to Sunoco!
