To trickydisco and anyone else here in Canada: I still have a 97 993 C2 coupe for sale. It's in the Rennlist classifieds if anyone is interested (ad #4613) It's an excellent car in every way and I would prefer it go to an enthusiast that will appreciate it as much as I do.

To Beers4all,

That's EXACTLY what I wanted to hear. Their equipment looks to
be on par with Intercity, plus they'll cross the border for me and
deliver to my door, which in the winter is a must.

However...

To All,

I told you guys I would give you the update. Well, yesterday the owner
had a Change of Heart, which I totally respect because, if the pain of
parting with his car outweighs the reasons for selling...then he shouldnt
sell it. I feel pain too, because this deal has been in the works for over
three weeks now. I had invested ALOT of emotional capital
as I was quite sure that I could close this deal. The reality is, it takes
a long long time to find the right car (and the right owner), and i feel
like I found it (and him) but his gut told him not to let go. So that's it.
There's no hard feelings, because my assessment of him as a person
is a positive one. I am very disappointed.

To those of you who had asked me...

it was a 98 C2S silver/blk

All the info has been invaluable to me and I am truely grateful as I
fully intend to make use of it when the next opportunity arises.

ciao for now,

barrington in toronto

Tango_Foxtrot..........

I move all my cars around by Hansen's or on flatdecks/open trucks..........what are you going to do.......bubblewrap it when you get home ???? LOL !!!

Open transport is soooo much cheaper than enclosed......and faster in most cases by days and often weeks......I've shipped Ferrari 360 spiders and Porsche GT2's this way.......and used Hansens since 1992.

FWIW shipping from Phoenix to Calgary on Hansens is only $1,299 + GST and gas surcharge (I ship vehicles on this route 6-8 times a year for my clients......the rate is on their website......click under the "snowbirds" link)....now Calgary to Saskatoon on an open truck is only $400 and 3 days.......I just saved you $800 and about 2 weeks travel time.

Call "Ross" at "Precision Carriers" for the Calgary-Saskatoon part.....1-866-853-0160..........tell him I sent you.

Good luck and enjoy........!!

you're forgetting $207 for the RIV and a $100 a/c excise tax.

I'll chime in here. I used Hansen's for an 1987 911. I originally wanted to drive it home, but local tax & insurance issues enroute will often prevent it. Many states will not issue a temp permit without full payment of retail sales tax & a CDN insurer needs a CDN registration - at least my insurer did.

Fort Lauderdale to Toronto. Door to door. They were very efficient - I even talked to the driver at pickup time. Open carrier from Florida to Houston & up through Port Huron to Toronto.

The car arrived intact. My rear sway brackets were busted - which might have been the bouncing on the carrier or might just have been missed in the PPI - it's a very common issue anyway. Other than that, it was fine.

I used a broker which expedited the border & clearing issues.

Total cost:

Actual Cost $18,000 (USD) $23,431 (CDN)
Shipping 1501.76
At US Border
Title Search 53.28 (USD) 69.35 (CDN)
At CDN border (based on $14K USD value)
Duty 1115.58
Tax (GST) 1365.26
Broker 428.20
To register in Ontario (based on $14K USD value)
Safety Check 65.00
Emission Check 35.00
Tax (PST) 1560.30
Other Provincial - Plating (?) 69.35
Appraisal Fee 195.00

Total 29,835.40

For some unknown reason they had my invoice cost at $14K USD rather than the $18K I paid. I tried to tell them . . .

Just to add . . .

I had the appraisal done for insurance - Silver Wheels. As of Dec 2004, the appraisal is necessary in Ontario for calculating PST - they don't believe an invoice anymore. I got in under the wire & saved $800.
