I'm in the N/E GTA (Uxbridge) and looking to have my driveway repaved after 17 years (it has sunk a fair bit at the garage and a number of cracks so it's time). Any RL recommendations? I know there are a number of questionable companies in the industry. I may check in with some neighbours (to the extent people still do that) on the same. I have seen a Gallo Brothers crew around a fair bit but I don't know if that's just a proximity thing.
Depending on what material you want. Elite Concrete did my driveway 15 years ago and it has stood up to 15 years of harsh snow removal by contractor. I am having them return next week to quote on adding an additional parking pad and other stuff.
I also invited 3 other firms to bid on the project (concrete or interlocking stone) so I will let you know how it goes
Thanks gents - definitely a shady biz - more so than roofing which we did during Covid. I talked to the guy who built our pool on the weekend and they have been building pools in our area for 50 years and still don't have a paver they would associate their name with - concrete is another story but I'm just looking at old school asphalt. Thanks.
I cannot say enough good things about West York Paving. They have done a number of jobs for me and it has been seamless perfection every time. Most recently I purchased a commercial property (the rest of my jobs were residential) and they were magnificent in dealing with tricky grades and drainage considerations. I have ZERO affiliation just a super satisfied repeat customer.
After our original 40 yr old drivrway that was becoming a little tired, I had it redone by Nortown Paving & Construction, a Family run company for over 42 yrs now run by the second generation. We are happy with their job completed early Dec 2023. They were easy to deal with, on time and on budget, and were competitively priced, in fact lower than most of those companies who knocked on our door soliciting the job over several yrs previously. No affiliation, just a client. Check out their website for the types of work they do. When you call the owners generally answer the phone and they are on site when the job is being done. Good luck with your project.
I think you need to wait a few years before knowing they did a good job.
Lots of scammers out there.
This is true 100% .. lots of scammers .... but i think you can tell immediately...
had an outfit from out of town come in going door to door ....he kept lowering the price every day they knocked on my door .. they parked all there equipment on my street opposite my house for a week which left ugly diesel and gear oil stains on my street, but that's another story ... All cash only 3000-3500 for a 20 ft by 25ft driveway approx... so you know they are paying zero tax .
Anyway after inspecting , they were horrible, I think they were scraping off the top .. putting it in a dump truck ,, next day they would come back with it remelted and poured it back in . There were spots with nothing but fill rocks and no tarmac. and spots with tarmac and no supporting rocks.. looked horrible and to Rods point will be a mess in a few years.. it is actually very easy to see with the naked eye ... Then i went to my buddies house who payed 8 grand to have it done ... they took it out and refused to come back for a month , they put additional fill in and said it needed to settle and to drive on it as much as possible. Sure enough a month later when they came back and did the job it looked spectacular and still does 3 years later with even distribution ...
I fully believe getting prior customers and going over and having a look is worth it.
