While not even close to Porsche driving dynamics, my wife's old (2020) C43 sedan was capable of some fairly impressive Dragy verified performance numbers.
Traded it on a Macan GTS as the new C43 w/4 cylinders was big miss for Mercedes. What a dog....

Nope...not sure what I want next. Currently, all I do is commute back and forth between home and shop; any P car would be mostly sitting and depreciating.

Yes, the 6-cyl C43s were quick and moderately entertaining in a straight line...but that parlor trick got old fast. In defense of Mercedes, I will say the electronics worked flawlessly during my time with the C43; Porsche could learn a thing or two from them.

Just picked up a new ‘25 M2 to replace RS6. While RS6 has been a great car but it wasnt fun enough: traded in for new M2 and got a cheque from BMW.

It is fun: whole lot more powerful than what BMW claims to be at 473. Feels very much like the car with low to mid 500ish hp. Rear kicks out easy. Fun.

I find myself oddly drawn to the Mercedes GLA 45 AMG. Anyone have any informed opinions on that vehicle?
I had one that I liked but only kept it for a few years. I loved the versatility of the hatch, the size, 4WD, good build quality and mine was optioned out the wazu - great seats etc. My first Merc after mostly Audis.

The engine is very high performance...but I never really fell in love with it. It was....buzzzy. Given that I needed it for winter driving 'up north' I was also really frustrated by the 4 WD system. With the same tires as prior Audis it would get stuck in snow that it should have been fine with.

I would have kept it, but dropped during covid as it sat in the garage.

Very happy I did! Much more interesting than the old Golf R. Blast to drive with Pirelli AS3+ tires. I’m the same age as the OP and live on the same island. There’s another local guy with a 4RS and a GR as well.
  • good shifter
  • strong brakes
  • amazing grip with trick AWD system
  • firm ride but easy daily
  • great value
  • quirky
  • good sound
  • smooth engine
  • decent steering
  • econobox interior - basic
  • average fuel economy

Golf R…which in our household is my wife’s daily because for the money??…it’s a solid choice. Just the right size…just luxurious enough…heated AND cooled seats…heated wheel…quick with a nicely tuned suspension and is rattle free. I swapped out the brutal subwoofer for a decent one with small amplifier with the OEM sound system which now sounds excellent….and the car looks the part with the discrete styling cues. In the winter, run a nice looking set of OZ wheels on snows and it will go anywhere. We bought the automatic given the car’s use case BUT I test drove a stick and thought that as one of the most “fun” cars I have ever driven…but she drives a 993 in the summer so to get to the grocery store or sit in traffic, auto it is.

21 F87 M2, buy the extended warranty from BMW for peace of mind for the next couple of years and you are good
more fun than any of the other options discussed, hands down

22-23 M240i would be 2nd choice, not quite as fun, but still a fun enjoyable car and newer with more warranty than a used M2C

Ive had an ITS on order for a while, and got tired of waiting. I went and bought a new Golf R Manual(last year for them) OFF MSRP in GTA last week. So far I cant give you my impressions on the car, but for nearly 12k cheaper than the ITS, I have rear HVAC, rear heated seats, memory seats, and AWD, the value was insane. I wanted the 4 doors, manual, and brand new. Fits the bill for me

This was my thinking when I got mine, 2yrs running no issues.

The car puts a smile on my face every time I drive it...

- New integra Type S...have always had a soft spots for Honda/Acura products. Owned an ITR way back in the day, and a TL Type S, and loved both...I really like the way this car looks, drives, sublime shifter, etc...I have a deposit down on one
- New Golf R 8.5...made some small tweaks to an already pretty good package. Not as engaging to drive as the ITS, but still a very fun car...the steering wheel haptic thing is still crap, but not a big deal once I get used to it
- New GR Corolla...this is the wild card of the bunch. Something about it just speaks to me, but it might be too rough/raw for everyday driving?
- Used M2...I have owned a couple in the past so I know the platform pretty well and really like the size, dynamics, etc...I would need to buy used to stay within my budget
Thoughts on the above? I was also considering a Cadillac CT4 BW but just don't like the interior at all...
I am turning 55 in a month, if that helps .
why can't you drive BGTS as DD?

It is a very fair question and one I have thought about myself. It has always been a dream of mine to have a solid, fun DD that I don't worry about too much...load up the km's, carry a bike, get sweaty, etc...and not worry too much about it. And then when I got the chance to get one of the (I think?) last allocations for the 4.0 GTS, I am going to only put a few thousand km's on the Porsche...not a garage queen, but only out on sunny days, not too much winter driving, etc...

But I can see your point for sure.

I recently got a ride in a colleague's Audi RS3 sedan. What a fun "little" car, makes all the right noises, has 4 doors, AWD, and gobs of tunable power. He loves it and drives it everywhere. Less boy-racer looking than the Type R, Golf R, and Corolla GR. On AutoTrader, they seem to be trading in the 50s.

Apologies if I missed it somewhere else in the thread. Do you need to carry more than 2 people? Ever, regularly? Do you need cargo space?
