Default Import US cars into Canada - process?

Looking to buy a 98,97 - 993C4s blk/blk in the next few months once I unload some real estate and have seen a large nice selection in the US via this site than locally in Canada.

Has anyone done the import route and if so any problems encountered?

I expect to pay the exchange, gst, pst, travel to drive back and a local US rennlister to check out for me.

Any other costs, surcharges, restrictions to import?

A friend put me on to this site, great site, my first post.

Thanks,

Go to customs, pull you pants down and grab onto your ankles. Sorry, I just imported my 2 cars and bike across the pond and they stuck it to me, despite owning the cars for 5+ years. I didn't have to pay duty though, for $33,000 worth of vehicles I paid $4202 tax's, you may be able to work out what they will charge you. I will recomend you get a copy of the bill of sale and definatly keep a copy of the registration. I'm not sure if there too new to bring across though, they tried to say something about the bike having to be 15 years old before I register it, maybe because it was from Europe???? There is a link somewhere previous on this section to the Customs requirements, the other thing customs will need is the recall clearence, no such thing of V8 Porsche's so didn't affect me. Good luck and take plenty of Lubrication

Default thanks for everyones help..

Looks straight forward. Duties exchange all in = USD$ x 1.48 = CDN$

Thanks again, very helpful info.

One last question, is the 993C4S classed as part of the 911 model family?
I see on the revenue canada link provided by djames that the only model admissible to import for porsche 97 & 98 is the 911 model. It says all other models are inadmissible?

But jcjblo has advised of a completed 993 model import to Canada and another on the way.

Can anyone please confrim the model issue if any.
Thanks,

Default Importing a 993 into Canada

hi Ramn

A 993 is from the 911 family. 993 refers to the body style. The 993 was replaced by the 996 for 1999 model yr. The 993 replaced the 964 body style for 1995 model yr.

"S" indicates that it is a wide body, has bigger brakes, etc. Basically the same car as the turbo model, without the Turbo. The 4 indicates that it is AWD as opposed to a C2S which would be 2 wheel drive.

Ramn,

Don't forget to tack on another 10% for the PST in BC. It won't be 7.5% since the car's value will likely exceed the threshold.

Not much unless the exchange goes down. For myself, a larger available selection of autos to choose from.

Hey defender, waiting for the real estate sale, hopefully soon. Excactly my first choice on what I will be looking for with the exception of a bit more miles so the price goes down. At that budget I would be able to upgrade my choice to a Turbo imported from the US. My range for my first 911 will be in the 50K USD or 75 CDN dollars.

Price seems high even though it is a very nice car, low miles. Nice to see one locally here on the west coast.
I gave them a call, I was wrong it was not a local BC car it came from an Ontario collection and there is already a deposit /offer on it, Wow!! Wish I had a couple right now, better investment than real estate.

Thanks again for your help.
