People look at my 997.2 GTS and think that. Problem is the kids... Either get rid of the kids and drive more, or keep the kids and drive less...
My issue is that I would have serious FOMO if I ever got rid of mine even though it makes no sense. Plus it looks hella cool just sitting there as a garage ornament!
Work for me is about 25 km away by the lake where Mississauga and Oakville meet. Pre-pandemic I used to take fun car to work a few times per month. Since pandemic, I'm only in office 2 days a week so I only took to work 2 times this year since I usually have errands to run but more because of the ridiculous traffic. My commute home used to be 25 minutes. Now it is 45 minutes to an hour. For perspective, no traffic it is a 20 minute drive.
I’m 22 kms door to door, but 18 of those are on the 403. I’ve been tempted to drive my 992, but bumper to bumper traffic, being cut off constantly if you don’t stay close to the car in front of you and having distracted drivers nearly rearend you almost every day, makes that unattractive. Next season my goal is to drive the beater SUV to work and take the 992 everywhere else.
I'm in everyday, so would be awesome to drive a fun car. But I'm concerned about optics in my environment, past jobs no problem.
IESO?
Yup...Lot's of people drive hi end cars. 911's are no different. I don't drive a 911 for status. I drive a 911 as I love the driving experience. No different than those that drive Mercs, Cayennes, Bimmers etc. IMHO
Kids man. The 951 has a roll bar in the back and no more back seats. If we go out as a family, we're taking an SUV so the sports cars get relegated to solo drives which time does not allow for. I've driven it to work a couple times when I didn't need to do daycare drop-off, but it's just the wrong car for commuting.
Dude on my street, he just constantly works on his 2 cool cars in the garage. Older gentleman (retired). As far as I know the cars run but never see him go for a drive.
That will be me .. I actually enjoy working on them more than driving them , Its a great hobby in retirement.
people drive cars for different reasons, I love tinkering more than anything.
Best Corvette bang for your buck fun is a c5 Z06. Very raw, $40k CDN gets a mint low mile car. 0- 60 mph in 4.0 sec bone stock. I’ve owned 2 and nearly bought another last year.

I sold my SC and bought an 07 C6 Z06 in 2015 when I retired. Fun car to drive, I tracked it but I had more fun with the SC.

People have busy lives and have different situations. Good news is, there are still "car guys" out there in our neighbourhoods. I was dragged into this world of "garage queen/barn find" as a product of having very little time to myself over the last 4-5 years. Between my kids and a demanding career, I had to step away from enjoying driving my cars as much as I used to. They sat in the garage most of the time. I held on them for as long as I could, but ended up selling this past summer. Both the 993 and my 997 saw very few kms and frankly as time went on, I just truly fell out of love with them. More so with the 997, but to my own surprise, also with my "dream car" 993. Not a good feeling. I did replace them with one single Porsche recently, and I'm happy to say this move rekindled my passion for both the brand and my car hobby in general. The future is bright, and even brighter at 9K rpm! My kids are older now, and I think I can find the time again to go for early morning therapeutic rips in the twists, or to a track or to a social gathering. I'm excited for 2025.
