Yes, and that's why I'm a died in the wool air/oil kooled guy Rick. !5 years and (touch wood) $5K or $6K of maintenance other than usual oil, filter and brake fluid changes. Don't get me going on the $5K+ insurance! So, have they resolved the scoring and other issues with the water kooled motors?

I'm probably the wrong guy to ask as I haven't paid much attention over the past few years. But haven't heard much chatter about scoring since the 997s so I assume yes

PFAFF Tuning did my Dundon exhaust on my car... It was initially installed slightly off angle, I showed them and they quickly took it in and corrected it... that's primarily the reason I brought it there, I know if there was ever an issue they would look after me.

I believe the extended warranty is void if it goes through a non-P dealer

fyi..

I brought my car in for service at Porsche Vaughan, and we were discussing the exhaust system with the service manager, I installed as it is louder than stock... literally the next sentence was do you wish to extend your warranty as it comes due this November. This would be the second extension if I take it... there was no hesitation on their end to offering it.

That's too bad to hear as that would have been my go to car if i was going water cooled.. never a 996 , but i thought most issues were resolved by 997 , and just before the heavily Bloated 99X series ( in my opinion )

Hearing this if i were to enter the water cooled market sounds like i would be leaning to the Cayman.

As mentioned above, the bore scoring issues in the 997 did not happen in the Mezger engine of the turbos and gt cars so no reason to avoid them entirely. Also many people never have a major issue with it and enjoy the cars for years. For me personally I would not assume the risk again however

understood, no way i would be getting a 997 Turbo so not likely going to get another Mezger. Glad you found something good .
