Good article here. We seem to be getting down to 50 shades of Grey ( or black, or white). Colours that were standard are now extra, and PTS is in two parts...PTS standard ( just another range of colours) and PTS+ which is the more unusual shades and very expensive.
I have never actually bought a PTS car, but I have often gone for a brighter standard colour. There is something about paying extra for paint that does no attract me, but we are all different

I’m not supporting Porsche’s move, but I can tell you that the cost of paint can vary dramatically based on colour. We have powder paints that cost $10/kg and others that cost $75/kg. Also, I’m not sure how automotive lines handle colour change set-ups, but some colours require more set-up time than others. I’m guessing that they averaged these costs over the colour range for years and now are making you pay for the cost differential and choice of more fun colours.

So happy I was able to get Mamba Green for the sub $1000 price on my Macan...I'd have a hard time swallowing the $3-4k paint colours let alone the $10k+ ones.

It’s all about marketing. I’ve shopped some BMW models that only offered a single color without a premium. I’ve also seen colors be standard on some models, but extra on others, which kind of debunks the paint cost theory.

Guards Red is now PTS. It becomes hard to pay so much for what was a run of the mill colour.

It sounds like interesting times at Porsche with sales in China sagging and a focus switch to the US. While I want Porsche to succeed, I think some healthy competition will be good. That could come with the continued push up market on price. Some other real contenders in these new price brackets.

Related but Lugano Blue appears close-ish to Shark Blue and is also in the $1700 category while Shark Blue was $3k+. So that is something.

Just look at how aggressively pricing is moving up. A Carrera S is a $200K car now (in no small part due to luxury tax) and the entry level EV SUV Macan is a $125K min proposition.
At other brands what were $250K cars (458) are now $500K+ cars 296GTB. Etc...etc...
The rumored 3-row EV SUV is expected to be over $200K and will crest $300K for sure.

Agreed although Guards Red is not PTS on the 992.2, it is one of the 'Dreams' options for $1700. Same price now as Carmine Red which used to be in the $3k+ range. Of the two I'd get Carmine all day.

Interestingly it's Porsche that's brought on the competition as their vision is to have the brand move up a tier or two and fill the gap left by Ferrari, Lambo, Bentley, Aston (not that they're much competition) moving up even higher.

Really interested to see if AMG brings a new GTR. Don't think we have pricing yet for the GT63 in Canada.
The new cars are too quick to really enjoy the driving capabilities on our GTA roads.

To be fair there is also the demand side when 80% of new cars I the US are greyscale ...https://jalopnik.com/cars-have-gotte...0-y-1851516094

There's not much that would get my interest.
