Default May 28 - Hybrid 911 Debut

Wow, finally confirmed...I like the hybrid idea! Should be very interesting to see their approach. Will also take the car upmarket I presume.

As I recall it is not plug-in, but self-charging?

Yes I think that's right.

Question will be when will the GT product receive the hybrid treatment. I would assume next generation 911 rather than 992.2. Would think they would want to see market acceptance and real world data first.

992.2 will be last NA GT product is my guess. From a sales POV, it'll drive up demand big time to have the last NA 911 GT3/RS if they announce as such, there will be some swan song variant too. They haven't said anything like that for 992.2 GTs, they wouldn't let the opportunity slip.

Yep, they usually do indeed.

Still, I have no interest in a swan song RS. It will be better of course, but my current 992RS is better than my capabilities anyway.

At some point however the 992 will end. The model is pretty mature now, and it will be interesting what an entirely new 911 will be like. As for an entirely new RS that would be years away and way too late for me to buy due to age.

considering a new base 992 with a few options costs $160k have to figure the new hybrid will be at least $200k for a bare-bones base model.

Quite possibly. Borg has a long history with PAG/VW for turbos.

e turbo doesn’t fit the definition of hybrid, especially it’s officially announced .2 will be hybridized. But it could be using eturbo and hybrid technology together

I recently drove a Ferrari 296GTB (turbo hybrid) on a private track in the US....
If Porsche can do half the job of Ferrari it should be a stunning, capable car....
As a "turbo hybrid" it will sound "funny", but the "instant on" extra torque will be a dream coming out of T5, and will likely give the Turbo S and the 992RS some competition...
Yes, the 992 RS is a sublime car, but this new hybrid model will be something your grandfather might buy...
YMMV...

I agree this will be a superb car, and of course this is the base car. Let's see what Preuninger & Co can do to add to it in the future.

Hybrids strike a nice balance for me. You still retain some of the sound and you get some more instant power. I test drove the McLaren Artura last summer for a week and it was awesome.
