OT: Selling a Rolex privately?

I generally agree and if not fake than a suspect process. I’ve been on “two lists” for about 9 months, one of which seems more legitimate than the other. The latter I’ve essentially given up on since “they had watches this morning but they’re all gone.” Would be nice to be like Porsche at least in the sense you could put down a deposit and you knew it was going to come at some point.
With Rolex, they don't even seem to be interested in me trading in a way that I'm willing to take a bath on to be able to get a 116500 Daytona and the likely reason for that is they have so many people spending $100k/yr at their store, which is probably generating $30k+ in profit (I'm not super familiar with jewelry margins) that me even giving them $10k in margin on a watch that I'm going to trade in doesn't interest them.
Luckily, these watches are in no way necessities and it's easy enough to simply go to the used market from one of the many trusted sellers (at least in the US) and get exactly what you want with none of the games.

Spending $100k on watches with an AD is nothing because there's guys who will spend that in one day. The thing with AD's is you need to get on their actual VIP list, not the "wishlist" and buy whatever they offer you to build a relationship and if you're from out of town, you're out of luck because they will always sell to local clients.

For high-end watches like the SS white ceramic Daytona, authenticity and condition are key. Many enthusiasts use forums, specialized watch selling platforms, or trusted dealers for private sales. As for feeling comfortable wearing such a valuable piece, I get it—it's a personal choice.

My understanding is that 36 DJ's are available to order again, but it may take 3-4 months to get exactly what you want. I wouldn't spend a penny on anything else to get a DJ. I was at Yorkdale a few weeks ago waiting for Dinner reservations and went into the Rolex store there. They were pushing pretty hard for me to make an appt to speak to a sales rep. They haven't done that for the last few years, so I suspect supply is opening up again. Try a Rolex only store and see how you make out.

Also, I recently came across a Patek Philippe replica that's eerily close to the original. It's amazing how replica technology has advanced. If you're weighing options or exploring alternatives, replicas like these can offer a similar look without the hefty price tag.
I had to smile when I read this.
Back in the mid-80s, I was in Hong Kong on business, and went wandering through the teeming streets of Kowloon. A street vendor offered me a Rolex for $20. US dollars, but still ..
I said, That's a fake Rolex." He replied, "Yes, but it's a genuine fake."

Some of these "super clones" are so good that it's nearly impossible to know if they're fake unless you open them up and check the movement. You also have fakes that use real parts, which is why it's always best to buy from an AD. Even some of these well-known resellers are getting duped.
