My First Speed Camera "Offense"
#16
Ironically, costing "them" a bit of money means you are actually paying a higher fine (assuming you are unsuccessful) since it's your tax dollars funding your own trial. This is a strict liablity offense with a low chance of being successful so why waste your time? Unless you are retired and this replaces walking around the Mall for an afternoon, lol.

You might want to do some homework about what happens in court when you decide to challenge a photo fine. Because the camera can’t prove you were driving, the offence doesn’t go on your driving record and you’re only out the fine.
But if you show up in court aren’t you kind of admitting you were the driver? By identifying yourself are you setting yourself up for a worse result?

I haven't yet signed up for a court appearance. As I said, zoom does not look like a promising venue. If you are there is person, things are a lot more informal as far as talking to the prosecutor is concerned
In a physical court, I could hope that the guy who signs the ticket does not show, and I could walk. If a trial I can also ask questions about how the whole thing works.

maybe challenge the calibration of the camera (but you may need to know what you are talking about before the Prosecutor and the judge) ? are there any signage that indicates automatic speed camera enforcement is in use (usually there is one installed on the pole a very short distance before the camera)?

I got nailed on your Highway 407 express a few years back when i was going from Mosport to Oakville at 13:00 on a Friday afternoon to rent a gearbox from Ernie at Mantis … his wife told me to get off the 401 and take the express highway.People were passing me doing 140 kms per hour and i got a speeding ticket for doing 115-120, i guess it was the Quebec licence plate 🙃
Couldn’t figure that one … anyhow , i did the smart thing and paid !
Cheers

There are smallish signs, but I'd rather drive a reasonable speed and keep my eyes on the road

A guy got that type of ticket dismissed here in Vancouver by claiming that because the “beautiful British Columbia” on this plate was obscured by his plate frame that the plate photographed couldn’t be confirmed as being from B.C. Despite the fact that the numbers and the sequence and the car and the car color matched the plate, and he was local to the ticket, the ticket was dismissed.

Camera traffic enforcement is the first step to Elysium. Elysium is a Matt Damon dystopian movie where brutal a robot police force dispenses "justice" and I think is the best prediction I have seen for the future of this planet

Not difficult to avoid. They have warning signs, coming soon signs and Waze is excellent though not perfect.
no points and just a fine. I would simply pay it.
The one time I got nailed was on a rally and I was concentrating on a time deficit. I deserved it.
