Do the new speed trap cameras not point one way but take pics 2 ways to get speeders coming or going? If this is the case, I don't think we will ever lose the front plate.

Both plate and insurance are linked via your vin.

agreed but how ..
i imagine it is when you very first register the vehicle, after that it will not need any updating for the life of your car. so thats why they canned it ? Adam would know the process exactly im sure.

Every year when you renew your insurance, it gets registered in the MTO database. I was trying to register a car once that I had taken off the road for the winter and didn't insure it. When I went to get a new sticker in March, they wouldn't give it to me because I forgot to re-activate my insurance. I had to pay my insurance and then wait a couple of days for the system to get updated before I could get the sticker.

So now, if you don't have active insurance registered against your car and a cop runs the vin, that will show up and he can pull you over.

No idea if they do. But interesting point if they rely on front plates.

my understanding is the photo is only taken from the rear so as to not blind the driver from the camera flash.

This will certainly help the shady types who roll back the odometers on used cars. Without annual registration, how can companies like CarFax show the history and mileage of a car?

Don't worry, all of this will be covered in the MOT-type inspections that will be announced after they throw the people this bone. Just my prediction.

LOL, my DD plate expired in Feb 2023, just renewed it today. Good till 2026 now.

I suspect Ford Nation will have a much tastier money saving treat for the masses ahead of the next election...

Picture this bit of big brotherism for toronto:

You have the Green P parking app on your phone. You park somewhere and pay for some time. The parking gestapo guy drives by and scans the plates. He wouldn't even need to get out of his car to issue you an on-line ticket if you forgot to increase the time.

I don't think this has been implemented, YET. When I was last in London, England I was afraid of this happening.

True, though you are responsible to make sure you have paid for the period.if this technology reduced the number of parking enforcers and thus took a few off the payroll I would be ok with it.

This would only be the thin edge. No limit to how far you could take this, and they probably will. For me, the book 1984 was a nightmare, not a prescription
