I’m looking at a 2019 Porsche Cayenne base with 88k kms this is being sold by a non-Porsche dealer just outside of GTA. They are telling me that it comes with an extended Porsche warranty until 06-2027.
Based on my research so far, it looks like the warranty can only be transferred if a Porsche dealer sells the car. Is this a misrepresentation by the dealer? Can an extended Porsche warranty be transferred to a buyer by a non-Porsche dealer?
Thanks in advance for your help.

It turns out the Porsche Approved extended warranty is transferable and it is attached to the VIN of the car (if the previous owner paid for it).
I was able confirm this with a Porsche dealer! They said there was a recent change in policy that allows them to transfer the extended warranty. So it is always good to double check.
I just checked on the Porsche website and it still states that only private sales or Porsche Centre sales allow warranty transfers. Hopefully, you can get the change in writing before you buy the car...
I just got my Porsche Taycan from a non Porsche dealer and I had the same question. As of February 2021 - all Porsche CPO follows the car and not the owner - lucky me!! The owner bought the extended warranty from day one - I am in Toronto, Ontario Canada but I would hope this is the same across the board. Enjoy your new Porsche

Just to be clear, the CPO warranty and the owner-purchased extended warranty are not the same thing (although they appear to have equivalent coverage). Only a dealer can CPO a car, but an owner can buy the extended warranty anytime before the original 4-year factory warranty expires. Good to know that even if sold through a non-Porsches dealer both warranties travel with the car...but until Porsche Canada updates the website I'd want documentation confirming that's the new policy, and that the warranty has been transferred.
I am confused. The previous owner bought the Taycan CPO on the bill in January 2023 on a 2020 Taycan. He bought the 2 year extended one. Now I just got the car and I checked with Porsche and they said the warranty follows the car as of February 2021. Can you explain again so I understand?
The CPO listed - although it says $0.00 is now on the car I own. This is the previous owner's bill of sale. I did not buy my Taycan from a Porsche Dealer. Porsche was low balling the customer so he went elsewhere and I bought the car from that dealership. I have heard so many times that the warranty cannot be transferred unless I specifically bought it from Porsche. I called Porsche Canada and they confirmed I am protected until November 2026.
