Default Coolant options

Do people mostly stick with the Porsche-branded product or are there other options? Not trying to save money, just looking ahead to road trips where it might be nice to be able to drop into Canadian Tire and get an acceptable/compatible product.

I read on the forum where some folks will get VW coolant and "claim" it's the same as Porsche. I don't know scientifically if it is. And if it is, great, if not, will we know if it will cause problems? I guess we'll never know.

Canadian Tire sells specific Porsche coolant ... Audi / Porsche / VW coolant ...same difference ...
I have used the Mercedes CTC coolant in my Benzes without any issues . see attached below

There are basically 3 types of coolant, IAT, OAT and HOAT. The one linked above is the correct coolant for most modern german cars.

IAT is the old school yellow coolant that needs to be changed every couple years..

OAT is used in most modern P-cars

HOAT is used in older p-cars like my 928.

Best thing to carry on road trips is just some distilled water in case you end up with a leak.

I get my coolant from germanparts.ca

+1 on distilled water and some water wetter to prevent cavitation at the water pump impeller. You don't want to mix OAT and HOAT coolants - you'll end up with a gel and can then kiss your engine goodbye.

Get the VW/Audi Coolant. It’s half the price and you can also get it Pre mixed.

Yes, I just converted mine to HOAT and did a full flush of every last drop of OAT out of the system.
